I ask because I was reading this article about the upcoming Marciano-Walcott fight where Jimmy McCullough claims Walcott is looking to take revenge for Joe Louis. That could just be hype. What's more interesting is the story of how Walcott tried to talk Louis into retiring:

"Joe, your reflexes are gone, I don't want you to fight anymore, particularly against this Marciano."

    Louis replies:

"I want to fight Marciano just for the opportunity of driving him into Al Weill's lap."

Am I missing something obvious as to why Louis would feel that way?

Sounds like they weren't tight. (LOL)

Al Weil was a matchmaker for the IBC. I'm sure a lot of fighters had gripes with him. Marciano wasn't too fond of him, either. Weill took half of his income, both inside and outside the ring. That why Marciano usually asked for cash when it came to personal appearances.

Wasn’t the deal that Weill offered Rocky a 50 percent contract and Marciano was reluctant ... Weill asked him to take all his money out of his pockets and put it on the table, which amounted to a few bucks — then Al pulled out a huge wad of $100 bills and said “This is what 50 percent looks like,” and Rocky decided to sign.

    At least that’s the legend.

I don't think Weill was liked by too many. Marciano didn't like him. He just used people. He treated Charley Goldman like $hit.
