Those were simply excuses. The evidence is clear from the little video we have, and the reports of the fight, Walcott's movement troubled Joe (Something he also confirmed) Walcott wouldn't let Joe get in a rhythm and set his feet, and that was directly related to Walcott's movement. Joe said lots of things he was told to say that he didn't really think to continue his good image. He also said he thought he won the fight, but do fighters who think they've won leave the ring before the decision is even read? Doesn't really happen does it. I have seen people leave the ring when they know they've lost. Even if he thought he didn't fight a particularly good fight, but won, he'd still want to stick around to have his hand raised in victory, just as he had many times before. You don't get KD 2 times, while never scoring a KD yourself, and get outboxed and made to look silly most of the fight and THINK you've won. That makes no logical sense at all. What makes more sense is, because of the boos and calls for an investigation, is to do what many fighters who think they lost in the moment, after the moment they say they thought they won. Nothing new there.
You cannot simply dismiss Louis's obvious deterioration when assessing this fight. He saw his performance's as being bad enough to warrant retiring, despite having got Walcott out of the way for the foreseeable future. If he had simply been troubled by Walcott's movement, then why not fight on? Louis obviously thought that something was wrong with him, and his explanation that his reflexes were gone, seems to be by far the most plausible.
What do you mean he was slow with his feet? Like he didn't cover a lot of surface area per round? Or like they were literally slow when he tried to move them?
Well yeah...because it's Walcott. His style was basically designed around the ability to do just that, and he was supreme at it.
It doesn't matter what Ali thought. If Ali told you that Joe Louis had blue hair would you accept it without question? You can watch the film, and see for yourself!
Janitor. ..i have watched his fights... My opinion is the same. And of course that the opinion of ali is relevant. I can accept that you say that he was not super slow... It is fine. But you said that he had a great footwork and it is laughable... Sorry
I mean that he was overall very static, for example tyson looked much more dinamic on his feet. By the way how are you mate?
How many great super heavies have there been? Louis sure didn't have any trouble with ordinary super heavies!
