Funny enough... Even with the win, the fight hurt Hopkins way more than it did Roy! Pensacola in the houuuuse!!!
Those rabbit punches seemed soft but Hopkins was seeing spots. Probably has something to do with being 45 years old. That's pretty scary and should tell him it's time to hang them up.
Say what you want but Jones is ending his career with more dignity than Hopkins and Toney. He is still stubborn about admitting his losses but he toke his loss to Bhop like a man and didn't cry and didn't stand for Hopkins' dirty ****. Also Jones never balloned up in weight in his big fights. Yes he got knocked out and the others didn't but he was shot to **** and still gave Bhop problems. I admittingly am a fan of all three but hope they all retire asap.
****, i was getting the impression on here that jones fought his best to the end and refused to take the easy way out
Far from his best, he coasted through at least 9 to 10 of the rounds; but at least he didn't get knocked out again. He took his loss like a man. I would like to see him hang them up now. The good thing is that even though he was close to getting DQ'd, he didn't let Hop get away with illegal blows. He fired one back each time Hop threw one. Both were throwing them, but Hop was the only crying about them.
Jones appeared the much classier and professional fighter. More importantly, Jones still looked like the BETTER fighter. When Jones pulled the trigger, he got the better of Hopkins. Even on the inside, the clinch, Jones was landing the little uppercuts all fight, while Hopkins was pretty much nullified on the inside.
He did. I don't think Jones placed much hope in this fight. All he wanted was not to get KOd, so he gets his full share. Jones really never was the same after moving to HW to fight Ruiz. That or simply time caught up with him.
Can't believe I stayed up till 5.30 to watch it. Absolute bore of a spectacle (though I blame myself, I should have known how it was going to be). I'm glad Roy didn't get KO'd, but they should both call it a day now. Save us all the hassle of watching their performances.
Yeah he had to totally imbarase himself to get a decision over a fade shell of Roy Jones. Personally, embarasing acting and judges score cards aside it still looked like Jones had his number in there. He was backing him up and keeping Hopkins off balance with his speed. He was never any trouble. Basically the only thing that B-hop had going for him was the Jab to air, followed by the head first rush followed by weak ass arm punches to the body. That scored point but its not like Jones was ever very worried about what anything Hopkins was doing. The only reason he won this fight is because Roy didn't have the legs to get out of the way.
I noticed that, too. Barges in with his head down, fights dirty, overacts the hell out of it when the opponent gives it right back to him to milk it for a break. He did the exact same thing vs Calzaghe, but he took it to a new level against Roy because it's not even like Roy was doing enough to wear him down. Along with fighters who are faster/more athletic than him, I now think Hopkins would also have trouble historically with fighters who wouldn't back down from his bullying tactics and who would rough house him right back.
RJJ did not come to fight. I don't know what exactly he trained for. He had zero workrate, initiated holding without even trowing punches. He taunted, fouled, and feinted a plenty but didn't really land more than 2 or 3 relevant shots the whole ****ing night. I knew he was shot but didn't think he was that shot. If Hopkins couldn't beat this ghost that he faced last night except via a whinny, boring, lame, uneventful decision then Hopkins' present status in the game is overrated. A supposedly #4 P4P fighter should be able to look better at disposing of someone who was, quite honestly, fighting at a journeyman level last night.
Hopkins clearly won on the scorecards, but I think Jones actually won the event.... He looked like the better man to me at the end of the day, hell I think he probably could have won had he let his hands go more.
Hopkins is so old it's plain ridiculous. He is only a few years older than Freddie Roach for Chrissakes!!!! Roach retired 25 ****ing years ago. Could you imagine Freddie fighting right now? Damn BHOPs is old.
