I have nothing but respect for Cotto. He seems to be a genuine decent man.

Martinez said he was 100%, his theropist said he was 100%! Not Cotto's fault Martinez and his camp lied about his injuries. Martinez could have pulled out until he was better, but opted to move ahead with the fight and got beat badly. That my friend, is a bad career decision! Cotto did exactly what he was supposed to do with a one legged champ......TAKE HIS BELT!

The circumstances may not be Cotto's fault, but they do impact the amount of credit merited by his victory.

Well, he was only ever going to get worse. He initially wanted to carry on fighting, but was forced to retire, a year after the Cotto fight, because his injuries were beginning to complicate his everyday life, let alone his hopes of continuing a boxing career.

Of course. But we shouldn't pretend that Cotto beat a functional version of Martinez. There's a big pile of evidence (visual and oral) to the contrary.

Cotto's win over Martinez was a good win....not a spectacular achievement since Sergio wasn't prime or 100% healthy but Miguel moved up to middleweight and took full advantage of the opportunity to face the lineal champion and add another lineal title in another weight class to his impressive resume. At the end of the day it only enhances Miguel's legacy and that's what the goal is of any fighter. Cotto had a shot at facing GGG but wisely chose not to seek that fight.....although I did hear that they were looking to get Golovkin in the ring as Miguel's farewell fight. Thankfully GGG couldn't commit.

I can't argue! A healthy Martinez stops Cotto inside 8!

Mosely was juiced to the gills AGAIN !! don't FORGET HE;S A PROVEN SELF CONFESSED JUICER. Margarito was sick & weak as a kitten. on top of that he had that POS Rchardson blatantly lying about " plastic inserts & plaster blocks " they ruined his career because your heros knew they could not beat him. The Margarito that fought Pac would have destroyed SteroidShane

Nobody knew how shot Sergio was until he got in the ring and Cotto knocked him around the ring. I’m almost certain he was favored over Cotto, many saying he was tiny for MW.

And remember, Sergio signed on the dotted line for this fight, Cotto didn’t attack him in a back alley.

If anything, blame Sergio for going through with the fight when he knew better than anyone he was done.

I fail to see the correlation between that situation and one in which a fighter injured himself mid-fight.

Mosley beat him first yes, but PAC is the one that literally broke his entire face and essentially ended his career.

Cotto was universally loved in 2012. Fast forward just a couple years, wow.

Mosley, more like naz, ended him. Never the same without concrete gloves. Name one person he beat that was notable after Mosley? NOBODY. He was invincible until he was exposed for a cheat and Mosley beat him post to post. Funny how that works. He declined literally overnight.
