This is no excuse especially for the top dog. But Ward was a relative unknown and Kesssler has a belt he is number one and was on a big KO streak. He has never been beatin so bad before even the Calzaghe fight was close thru the first 6. To his defense Ward is and unknown a darkhorse. The is not that much TV footage of him and most of his fights are not top level. Hard to formulate a good strategy or even know what to expecet from a guy with so little knowledge. Now that he has gotten exposure and since he pulled the big upset everybody is looking to knock him off and is paying attention to him. His next fight is Taylor or a replacement and should win. However going into the final 4 whoever he is pared with will have a more prepared game plan. I feel it is safe to say Kessler overlooked this fight like so many other fans. I am not saying this is an excuse and there are no excuses in the sport but do you think he did. And do you think now that everybody knows what Ward is capable of his opponents will be better prepared.

He looked like he may have been drugged or something to be honest, there is no other explanation to as why he couldn't pull the trigger with his right hand, not once.

Kessler looked rusty as hell. He's been too inactive. Maybe he's already past his best. Not only couldn't he pull the trigger, his jab and footwork were also gone. I don't even think he underestimated Ward.

If Kessler and his team undersestimated Ward then they were really stupid if that is the case. You don't underestimate a guy like Ward especially an olympic gold medallist.

I thought that Kessler would win a close fight, but what I witnessed was crazy.

His footwork was horrendous to say the least.

Probably. I still think Ward has a great chance at winning the tournament. I picked Ward but thought it would be a much tougher fight.

Well this is maybe 30% physically and 70% mentally. First the driving force between Kesslers motivation has been to beat Calzaghe and that has made him train hard, focus and do all that he could. It was said that he and Calzaghe was head and shoulders above anyone else at the time. I think they were. I think Kessler until yesterday thought so still. He said that he was in his best shape ever etc. But maybe Kessler is just not hungry enough he will never be able to get out of Calzaghe's shadow. Ward is hungry and opportunistic as hell and possitive and has a total different angle on such fight as Kessler might have. I think Kessler needs to find his motivation, not ask him self if he has done enough, but ask himself if he still can do it better and if he wants to.

I think he may have. Ward is a known switch hitter and Kessler said he didn't train against southpaws in sparring.

I think Kessler may have also underestimated Wards power as well. Kessler has got a pretty good chin and Ward isn't known as a huge puncher yet Kessler did get buzzed a bit and i think this, along with rust and Wards quick, awkward style was why Kessler was a bit gun shy.

Kessler just didtn have the footwork, skill or speed to live with Ward and never would have, its really that simple

I thought so too when he came out of his dressing room all red in his face, but then I heard about the guy Goosen put in their dressing room and I though he probably was just all red from fuming about it!

I'd agree with this. He did have a long period of inactivity and it showed.

I was thinking the same thing because you can never be sure fighting in the corrupt US what shady tactics they will use.

Europeans should refuse to fight in the US from now on.

Maybe he did, but if he didn't still he'd be schooled!!!!!!!!

Miranda is pretty tough customer, but Ward handled him just fine!!!!!!!!

So, I'm looking forward to "Son Of a Gun" do a lot in this tourney and on!!!!!!!!!!!

Kessler looked like dog crap. He was throwing few rights and I don't think he threw even one uppercut the whole fight. You compare that with his finishing combo on Marcus Beyer and it's like two different guys.

Not sure if he underestimated Ward or not. He may have. Whatever the case, he sucked and wasn't helped by the ref or Son Of Goat's headbutts.
