Did Khan Make the Right Choice By Ditching Warren For GBP ?

Ditching Warren was a good move especially after Warren had made a huge blunder with Prescott and then threw the trainer under the bus. However i'm not sure joining Golden girl will prove to be the right choice. I understand why he did it especially with their HBO connections, but i think there's a lot of ulterior motives with GBP. I just think he might be used and they would probabily prefer Ortiz to do better...as long as Khan keeps winning though there shouldn't be a problem.

 

I don't rate GBP at all to be honest, they are terrible at building stars. The only other alternatives would have been Top Rank, which would have been even worse then GBP or Frank and although I like some of other US Promoters (Gary Shaw, Lou Di Bella, Banner all seem ok) they aren't great promoters, Khan would have been stuck in small casino's drawing 0. Khan should have stuck with Frank provided he was willing to take risks he would have been easily the best option.

 

This is nonsense.

Warren got the Kotelnik fight only on the provision that Khan immediately fight Salita followed by Maidana. You can check this for yourself, as it even got into the mainstream news when TK cited this as another reason they wanted to split due to them supposedly not being aware of it.

Also prior to Khan signing with GBP, Warren was busy putting together the Maidana fight. It didn't matter whether or not Warren wanted him near him or not, the fact is he had to or Khan would of been stripped due to the WBA ordering it.

As for whether he's done better.. He's made much more money, the rest is probably about the same.

Khan didnt sign a new contract with him, other promotors are not so petty

 

They were on a rolling per fight contract basis, so in effect TK ditched the relationship

 

The fight was going to purse bids the week after Khan left warren. They were working on a deal. Bradley's manager also said him & Warren were close to a deal. So that's bull****.

Yes, he played it perfectly, got everything he could from Frank then left before Warren had him fighting old morales and ten old blown up past-prime feather weights in a row.

 

I didnt vote cus of the warrens a **** part.. Warrens a good promoter but i believe with GBP hes more 'in the mix' and his recognition is going to increase.. Warren would have probably got him the fights(he claims he was in discussions with Bradleys camp after Salita) but Warren would have sent him to the US alot later and probably would have prefered to keep him here. Out in the US hes not as known but hes gaining recognition (so far) for doing well.. Now hes got his 2nd fight in the US against Maidana. (A fight most boxing fans know is a big deal and will probably create a great interest).

 

Prescott and Barrera were both soft touches.

Khan not beating Prescott was not expected, let's not forget. Quite a few unskilled South American bangers would've detatched Khan from his senses pre-Roach IMO.

If he doesn't get hit against Maidana then he won't have proven a huge amount IMO. We know he's brilliant in every aspect to he fair, only question mark is over his chin.

I think he will take some shots and pull through this time. I think he'll show a few things, don't think he'll be able to 'do a Kotelnik' even if he wants to, Maidana will do well to see through the first few rounds IMO, but if he can give Khan a good fight I'm still picking Khan to come through.

There is always the possibility Maidana connects with a massive shot though. Just don't see him getting much done, Khan is better in pretty much every department.

 

Dont agree with what you're saying in the slightest. Lets not forget it was Frank who guided him to the WBA title, Madaina would've always been in mind.

Warren deserves big props for getting Khan anywhere near a world title. Roach deserves credit for improving him to the point where he can realistically compete with the top of the division.
