Khan reminds me of Wladimir sometimes. He's got a size advantage against most of his opponents, a safety first approach, now he's developped a decent jab that he uses pretty well, regular 1-2 combo's, and the risk in every fight of facing a chin-shattering shot. Watching him tonight, I'm wondering if Roach actually modelled his style directly upon Wlad's, or they just happen to be similar due to their common attributes. If he uses this style well, he could go pretty far.
That's actually an interesting comparison, except for the fact that Khan doesn't have Wlad's power(not that it matters...he doesn't even try to finish opponents anymore). Looks like Roach created a style for Khan that is tailored for his strengths/weaknesses. Good trainer.
Roach has done a great job with Khan congrats to him on his win tonight. Lets hope there are many more great fights to come with him and the other elite fighters in the division
Its boxing and any good coach knows use the strenghts protect the weaknesses if your athletic well coached and follow a perfect game you can really over come limitations
I must say the thought crossed my minde during the fight. Khan's jabs absolutely brutal now, and he has a high guard, and quite methodical in his approach. Extreme speed at his weight is probably what sets him apart.
Khan is much more versatile, and operates more at mid-range. He's a better fighter, P4P. He probably has a worse chin as well.
I think Khan moves better and more fluidly, even taking into account that Wladimir is a heavyweight. I thought 154 pounder Sergiy Dzinziruk on Friday Night Fights actually showed glimpses of Wladimir for some reason. I didn't pay close enough attention to really elaborate though.
