Did Kotelnik choose Khan or is there something else?

All the talk this week has been about how Kotelnik was the champ and he chose to take this voluntary defence against Khan.

    Bull****.

Why would he give up advantages of fighting in Germany to go into a rookie fighter's backyard in a hostile environment to defend his belt?

I would have to assume that Warren had a clause in the contract that Kotelnik signed to fight Gavin Rees that he could call on this bout as and when he wanted. It's surely the only explaination?

Nah, Rees had to fight the mandatory. You never know what Frank Warren set up, but I bet Kotelnik is getting a really decent payday for his troubles. He probably thinks he can win too.

Money. Golden Boy had all but done a deal for Ortiz to challenge Kotelnik but Warren came in at the last minute with a better offer and Kotelnik took that.

Yep voluntary defence so he fancies this is the fight with the greatest risk reward and best payday of his career.

  7. More money than anything else that was available.

Has anybody said 'money' yet? Quite astonished that the OP actually managed to overlook the glaringly obvious...
