Did Krusher Kovalev "Hold Back" from KOing Hopkins? It seemed like he had the power to really hurt Bernard but held back due to respect.

Part of it obviously (like in the first half of round 1) was to be patient and not be over-aggressive vs Hopkins. But after a few rounds it seemed clear that he could have his way with Hopkins.

Hopkins best punches didn't do anything to Kovalev, so there really wasn't much danger to Kovalev getting Hopkins out of there. I think Kovalev could have gotten Hopkins out of there.

I think he should have went for the stoppage starting in round 6 or 7, hops didn't belong in the ring with kov sat night.

kov should had went in the 6th like he did in the 12th and he would had stopped hops before the 9th but he did respect him a little too much. but hops showed a great great chin sat night, especially at 50, no one should be able to take that amount of punishment for 12 friggin rounds.

that match, hops showed me more than he ever had before. truth is hops never won a match I didn't expect him to win easily but he did lose some I expected him to win. sat I expected him to get the beating he got but never thought he would take those on the chin and still be standing.

    props, mad props to hops

He only really tried to get him out of there in the final round. I think B-Hop sticking his tongue out at him lit his inner fire a bit. However, I don't think he was even thinking about trying to force a stoppage during the previous 11 rounds. He could've got him out of there had he really wanted to, IMO.

Sometimes it looked like he did but other times it looked like he was going for it. I'm betting he held back at times. Hopkins fought too cautious and I don't blame him.

to be fair, yes he did he was being highly respectful of his aged opponent (outside the tongue sticking incident response which hops deserved), though to be fair again, I am not sure he could have stopped or dropped him had he gone all out (since hops hasn't ever been stopped).

it was win win for ko4clev, since in holding back, he proved he can go 12 rounds with a good opponent.

I think he did at times come on man you have the fight under control and remember he killed someone and he has this 50 year old in front of him.

I think he just fought a very smart fight. He had no reason to go for a KO as he won every round with ease. You don't want to get careless againsed Hopkins who has put guys like Calzaghe on his arse.

I completely and totally disagree. Your recommended approach is idiotic at best. It is exactly what Hopkins anticipated Kovalev would do, thus eventually tiring out and be ripe for the pickings in the later rounds.

Why is it the Mayweather fanatics know the least about boxing?

to be fair KO4clev has a much better chin that post prime Joe, hops wasn't going to hurt him.

Not in the 12th no. But he clearly could have opened up sooner.
