This content is protected imagine if ike didnt go to prison ike would have chased that Lewis fight I dont think lewis would fancy a fight with the president
Are "They" Ike's pronouns? Ike robbed fans. Lewis didn't. Ibeabuchi couldn't hold it together at all. It's all on him.
Manny Steward said he was never really impressed with Ike. And that was after Lewis already retired when he said that so Manny had no dog in the fight at that time when it came to the subject of Ike. If anybody knew what they were looking at as far as HW talent… it was Steward! Lol
Was really looking forward to this one back in the day after ike beat two very different undefeated contenders.
Dangerous guy for sure but probably not smart enough to beat Lewis unless he got lucky. My takeaway from the Tua fight is that Ike had a great chin and power, but poor ring IQ. Tua isn't exactly hard to outbox, especially if you have an iron jaw.
Ike's wins over the 6'2" Byrd and the 5'10" Tua who both liked to fight up close proves nothing in regards to how Ike would do against a tall rangy super heavyweight, let alone an ATG one like Lewis. Ike would have a punchers chance but that's about it. Lewis likely keeps him on the outside and wins a clear decision.
Nobody robbed us of that fight except Ike himself and his criminal deeds that saw him locked up for a considerable amount of time. He was the one who got himself a sentence of 5-30 years for battery and sexual assault as well as in nine parole hearings spanning eleven years he failed to convince the authorities he should be freed. A boxing career that was looking at greatness up until his arrest ended the day he was sentenced .
You misunderstood I wasnt blaming either. It was a fight I'd love to have seen. Sadly it was not to be Ike was a sick man, not his fault, to have mental problems. People realized this but no one other than the late great Curtis Cokes his trainer tried to get him help. Everyone else just saw $$$$$$$$$$ they didn't care about him or anyone else. With help & treatment Ike could have kept it together & who knows may well have achieved his dream of being HW Champ.
Agreed, except I think Wiki's listing of Byrd's height as 6ft even is closer to the mark than Boxrec's 6ft 2ins. If anything, more people scored Ike's fight vs Tua, for Tua than did for him. It was close enough not to be a robbery, but, whilst I appreciate triangle theories aren't bulletproof, the fact he was broadly equal to Tua doesn't bode well for him vs Lennox.
