We saw Holyfield prime vs 43 Holmes and we saw 41 Holyfield vs prime Lennox Lewis.. I'll bet prime Holy KO's Lewis and prime Holmes beats Lewis by a wide decision...Holmes had way harder fights as a young man then anything he did in the modern 90s when he was nearly eligible for the pension.

You said the 90s was the best era,You call his one weak so weak that none of them would be able to compete today, but he had tougher fights against Shavers then he did against the best/top3 90s HW in Holyfield when he was 42? How do you come up with that idea... The skill level must have decreased

80s fighters had the misfortune of having 2 of the greatest HWs of all time looming over them.
The Carl Williams who almost beat Holmes would beat both Klitschko brothers today and would definitely be a world champ.
Wlad would of been a nobody in the 80s as he would not of been able to fight out Germany. The fighting style would be too fast paced and his clinching would not be accepted.

Wlad aint ever fought somebody with a better jab than him. especially not a guy with an 85 reach to his 81.

The Truth would pick him apart from the outside without worrying to much about him walking him down.

Well, McCall /Rahman I were certainly entertaining..........

Lewis , while a good fighter was also a very carefully managed fighter, he fought and planned it safe and all the mentioned fighters by some of the posters in this thread were already severely abused in previous bouts.

BTW, both Golata and Ruddock were done-stick a fork into them after Bowe and Tyson had a go at them. As a matter of fact, Golata never beat anybody worth mentioning, lol, like Tua , they get their credentials from losing their signature fights, at least Ruddock put some oldtimers almost into a coma.

If you mean entertaining in terms of great fights then I would say Lewis/Mercer was his most entertaining fight. Big bombs thrown from both men, Lewis firing in combinations with hooks, uppercuts and body shots.

The fight with Vitali was also great to watch. Hurt early on, on more than one occasion and then adapting and turning it around, walking the bigger man down and forcing a stoppage. Over a decade later and it's still regarded as the last great heavyweight title clash, nothing since at heavyweight has come close in a major title fight.

Fact is Lewis was never the kind of fighter who would trade and therefore have the kind of memorable wars guys like Holyfield, Bowe, old Ali had. But he had some very entertaining fights. The bouts against Briggs and Mavrovic I also found entertaining due to the bombs Lewis landed on Briggs and the display of incredible durability from Mavrovic.

As a Lewis fan brutal KO's of guys like Golota, Rudduck, Botha and Grant were also good to watch.

Shavers would have bombed most of the 90s HW out. Todays fighters Chambers,Chaegev etc would have been sparring partners for 80s HWs.

I agree Dino..The worst version of Lennox Lewis couldn't even pass the torch Tommo

Who regards Shavers as feather fisted? Absolutely!?? lol he's like Seamus and his agenda against Dempsey. It's sad. Shavers hurt Holmes more than Holyfield did, same puncher who stopped Tyson,Bowe and I've never seen a fighter or anyone call Holyfield "feather fisted".

Shavers hurt em so fast the fight could be in a library and no one would be disturbed.

Shavers name in the 90's was Lionel Butler.

Seriously, do you try to be this ******ed.

Are you this sad in real life.

Williams was 6'4 with a 85 inch reach. In a battle of the jabs , Wlad hasn't a prayer of out jabbing Williams. His jab was , fast, hard and thrown with tectbook perfection. He had a fluid attack to head and body that he could land without being bear hugged. Wlad gone in 10 against the Truth....

The Carl Williams who almost beat a prime Holmes was an excellent fighter and would take Wlad to school.

His best win over a live opponent would be Razor Rudduck, he had some impressive wins over Botha,Golota,Grant but as we know those fellows were limited. He fought an excellent fight vs Tyson and fought Tua perfect but David could be out-boxed. I was not really impressed the way he beat Evander or Mercer but he hung in there.

Vitali was beating him but he pulled it out with a cut, I wish he would have rematched Vitali but IMO he was smart because he avoided a loss

The style of Spinks would cause Wlad all sorts of problems. Spinks was lucky to face Homles when he was unmotivated, disinterested and took the challenge very lightly...He had a bit more get up and go in the rematch but was still far from prime and got robbed..........

Spinks would knock out Wlad like he knocked out Cooney. In fact Cooney was a far better fighter. No once can accuse me of being a Larry Lover, you just have to look at my thread, I've seen larry dropped by far inferior fighters. But Larry would whip wlad and so would spinks. Wlad would last as long as Gerry Cooney did on a good day against spinks. He'd probably get knocked out by Holmes in the 11th or so.

Spinks whipped holmes at his best twice. Holmes was not the kind of guy to ever rematch someone he thought he couldn't beat. He wasn't robbed, he admits he lost fair and square, spinks style caused him problems because its unorthodox.
