XPERT-post m8. :thumbsup The last time Lewis looked anything close to his (1997-2000) Peak was in Rahman-2, but that was pulling all his greatness out to get brutal systematic clinical revenge, And he must of trained like a beast for that Rematch. But watching Rahman-1, Old Lenny was v.clearly a past-primer in teh truest sense. For that whole fight, he looked as bad as he did in teh first 2 Rounds VS Vitali - by that i mean lethargic, slow And with barely any reflexes. REGARDLESS of weight, i would bet the Old Lion was in much worse shape in Rahman-1, than in the TKO6 fight. There was no warming-up And stopping being listless/lethargic there.:verysad
:goodSpot on. I was gonna bring Rahman up in my last post. He obviously had the bit between his teeth for 'The Rock' and turned back the clock for revenge. Near perfect display of hit and move, then Manny told him he didn't need to move that much and Goodnight! But Rahman 1 was the worst he ever looked alongside the opening 2 against Vitali in his whole career. Like you say listless, lethargic and basically blowing out of his arse, even then he wasn't finding any oxygen. I remember watching it live and thinking i've never seen him look like this before, yet he was still winning. But yeah for me his last peak fight was Tua. But even then he was probably physically past his best. But the overall package was still formidable.
You sure mean closing his career by being beaten up, being given a major boxing lesson, losing all of his "legacy" and chased out of the sport, right? Staying bitter for so many years didn't help much either.
Absolutely not, he came from behind and stopped the guy no matter how. It would have hurt him much more if he hadn't avenged losses against McCall and Rahman.
Lose that fight, win the rematch before retiring and they rate Lewis higher. Everyone loves a 3x champion. Vitali hasn't had a fight of that magnitude since, his career lacks a big win over an even bigger adversary.
lewis will always be bitter to vitali because vitali hurt lewis legacy by forcing him into retirement,,
Why do people keep putting 'Lewis TKO 6'? The official outcome is not what's being discussed here, it's what actually happened during the fight. Why is the fight beyond discussion? It's as if Lewis fans are scared of the truth that their man was getting a beating and the fact that a win via a cut is one of the most fortunate ways to win a fight you are losing.
In the long term, no. Lennox was a great champion. The win against Vitaly was legit, nor did he owe the man a rematch. Vitaly was the third great fighter Lewis beat, and Lewis also beat a host of other intriuging contenders and titlists. Bowed dropped a title in the trash to duck the man. Lewis is only...I think the fourth HV champ to beat every man he has ever fought (Tunney, Marciano, Bowe, any others?). Great, gerat chmap. I put only Ali above him objectively because Ali beat more great fighters, and Louis for sentimental reasons.
