His last three fights had been 1 round blowouts, he was supremely confident and arrogant in his belief that he was going to kill Clay..he probably wasn't in the best of shape on top of that...all this added up to the slow, lumbering hulk that couldn't take Clay out in that round when he was blinded. Yes, the fight smelled, but there were reasons for it.

Liston was going all out in that round, and throughout the bout. The only things that really smell about that fight are the boring old conspiracy theories. Ali presented Liston with something he never had to deal with before. Sonny was psyched then beaten...............Pure and simple.

No one will ever convince me that the shot ali dropped Liston with was the type of shot that could drop and keep Liston down. No way no how was it that powerful

I didnt think there was any doubt that Listons corner put something on his gloves anymore?

Post the link your link is broken. But I didn't see where he pulled punches, I saw him miss and lose to a superior opponent

@Kurupt, you wanna take a jack johnson right handed anchor punch to the face by a 220 pound man be my guess. Its not the big earnie shavers punches that knocks a man out it is the one that releases the potassium in your head with a quick snap by shaking the brain inside the skull. Once that happens it just requires that you take 5-6 seconds to recover because its going to take you another 5-6 seconds to get up and regain balance.

I have no doubt such a punch could drop a charging man for I tried it in sparring on an unsuspecting opponent who was 6'5 235 pounds.

Peope say Liston's one of Liston's corner "admitted" it, but I've never seen the evidence. I've read article by X, who says Y (now deceased) was told by Z (also deceased) that he "juiced" Liston's gloves, but never seen any first-hand confession. And even a first-hand confession needs to be taken with a pinch of salt in boxing, when all the other parties are dead.

I think Liston's shoulder was already shot going into that round and Sonny's conditioning was, to put it mildly, "sub-par." (As Angelo Dundee stated--Liston turned into an old man during that fight.)

The round where Sonny outlands Clay/Ali 37 -1. That makes sense.

Ali was all wrong for him, even more wrong for him than he was Big George.

Bowe was a stiff! Throws the belt in the trash so he won't have to fight the #1 contender....
