Not a kd. Duran threw a wild right hook after he was hit and crossed his left leg over and threw himself off balance. There was no shoulder in Bizzaro's right. It took more than that punch to put Duran down in those days.

Yes technically he got hit and his glove touched down. You don't have to be hurt to have a kd awarded against you.

Thought I’d revive this overlooked piece of boxing history to get more opinions. You can watch the first minute or so of the embedded highlight video an see the sequence in question.

Technically, he got hit and went down immediately. The knockdown may have been more of a result of a slip, but there is a clear causative link between landed punch and going down.

I watched the fight live on CBS Sports Spectacular in May 1976, you are right, he ran and ran , no knockdown of Duran, only by Duran.Bizzaro holding onto Roberto's leg was voted photo of the year for 1976. Jerry Quarry and Tom Brookshire were the commentators.

Duran went down again, more clearly, about 25 seconds after the time shown in that highlight video. The referee waved it off as no knockdown, though.

So for me technically that was a knockdown no ifs or buts. It's a balance knock down and didn't hurt Duran in any way shape or form but it's a kd.

The Bizzness hits Duran right as he's moving in and about to plant his left foot to pivot off for his right hand. The timing of the punch halts Durans upper body while his left foot which is about to be planted and used as the pivot for the right hand is still in mid air. It's too late to back out of the right hand. Because of this (impact) the left foot never gets planted but he still throws the right hand which puts him into a tangle as his left foot flies to the right of him in the air and his upper body falls across to his left hence going down.

So the left foot never plants and flies to the right whilst his upper body falls to the left. His left foot eventually finds the floor but way right of where it needs to be and he has to fall.

He actually recovers quickly but his knee does touch the mat for a fraction of a second while the glove, tho it comes close, does not. You can see a little air there.

I'm talking about the kd at the 22 second mark of Longhhorns highlight clip.

Being in me home area of Pennsylvania, this was one of the 5 fights I saw Duran live. A wild afternoon thks to the bum Don Elbaum. Rds were shortened to save Lou. NKNOCKDOWN OF DURAN. Long count on Lou. But my favorite Duran fight ever. I got great polaroids of it. That Duran beats all the guys light to welter since them.

Looks like 2 knockdowns. Duran down twice in the same round.
He wasn't hurt. He was off balance both times, and Bizzarro caught him right to put him over.
Duran was obviously eager to get in there and hurt Bizarro. Just walking in with no footwork.
