Hard to say for sure because Broner clearly showed he doesn't have Mayweather's defensive skills or vision. Floyd sees more because he's so keenly focused. Broner? His focus seems to be on himself.

They might look similar but they're leagues apart mentally and the devil is in Mayweather's details. FM rarely attacks squared up like Broner did.

But I've always felt that a fighter with a powerful looping right would do better than most against Mayweather's type of defense. Maidana has one of the best looping rights in the game.

I think if a MUCH better and bigger version of Maidana were to try some of the tactics Maidana used, he could pull it off. The problem is that A.) such a fighter doesn't exist and B.) Floyd would change up his tactics if they weren't working.

You could definitely win some rounds with those tactics though...Cotto did it (in a slightly different way).

The reason it worked against Broner is he's kind of like a cheap imitation of Floyd. Looks good, but doesn't hold up to use. A lot of what Maidana was doing (feinting Broner out of position, sneaking in body hooks behind the elbows, throwing volume so some overhands/hooks get through) wouldn't work on Floyd because he's just better than Broner. He's not gonna go for your jab feints and leave his head exposed, he's not going to lay on the ropes rolling back and forth if you're getting through, and he for damn sure isn't going to leave bodyshot openings while in a defensive position. He's just better at what he does than Broner is.

Agreed all around. Broner simply doesn't have the in-game adjustment abilities that Floyd has. Those looping left hooks would never land on Mayweather. Too skilled, too smart, too good at ad******g.

I believe Mayweather had issues with his shoulder in the fight and if Castillo wanted to nullify what he did in the first fight, why did he not win the second. Even if Mayweather had no issues with his shoulder, he adapted and moved on. Some of you guys keep forgetting that was at 135 and now he is fighting guys bigger and stronger at 147 and 154. Broner is still talented and would not be surprised if he wins the rematch if they have one and then turn around and not give Maidana a rubbermatch.

No. He showed how to beat Broner.

We have seen Mayweather respond more professionally than Broner did to exactly the kind of awkward heavy-handed pressure Maidana brought.

No , this was almost like Hatton Mayweather in reverse

but a few points to note,

Floyd has a great jab - you need this against a come forward fight

    Floyd has great great timining

    Floyd is also deceptively strong

    Not even close.

Maidana is tailor made for Mayweather.

 Because that's floyd's only way to defend himself.:-(

Completely forgetting head movement, angles, parrying, catching, rolling, changing the look, angles, Judgement of distance, good vision, timing and countering ability. Floyd uses all of those.

this clown thinks all floyd does is use the shoulder roll..

truth is he doesnt even really use it until he figures out his opponent. once he has your speed and distance down he implements his unbreakable shoulder roll.

the shoulder roll is used about 25% of the time.

Exactly, thats why i laugh when opponents prepare their offense/gameplan for te shoulder roll. Then they get in their and floyd does the slightest change and they are lost for the rest of the fight.

    Uh....no.

There are a number fighters in history (most of them at 147) that I would favor over Floyd or call it basically a 50/50.

Maidana is not one of them and would get schooled. Maidana beating Broner means nothing in terms of Mayweather.
