Hmm? I'd say he would be in the mix if he was prime today

Today everyones got that problem though. If you filter out all the short fights Scott was 3-3-1. But all 7 opponents fought for HW belts and Scott seldom lost a round in the 3 wins besides the Thompson KD.

Leapai is one of the worst opponents of Wlads 2nd reign but he'd fought Wlad in his previous fight. And its not just that Scott won he beat him easy. Same with Shufford.

Malik Scott had solid skill and speed, good height and reach, kept a decent pace for a heavy, but problem was he simply was not talented enough, or big, strong, powerful, physical enough to handle the more talented guys in the division who could hurt him and he could not hurt. A good top 20 type though who would outbox you if you were not in top shape.

There were a lot of years there where the division was horrendous that he could have jumped in and been somebody, and he chose not to do it. Great skills, no power, no ambition, and a penchant for dodgy fights (Chisora and Wilder) which could have been fixes, or just not trying very hard.
