He lost. Alot of fights. And arguably lost two more than what his record suggests. People hate on Floyd for beating guys not in their prime supposedly. Look at Manny. Mosely Hatton De La Hoya Fought them all after Floyd beat them. Fought Oscar a year and a half after Floyd. He fought Hatton a year and a half after Floyd. And fought mosely a year after Floyd. On top of that Marquez arguably beat him 3 out of the 4 meetings. The early losses in his career count, just because they came earlier on they can't be discounted. Longevity. Floyd haters hate on him but look how long his career lasted and look at all those wins. We will say he lost one fight to Castillo which many people agree on. 49 wins is still damn impressive. Floyd was the master of his craft and Manny faded a lot towards the end too. Bradley beat him in 2012 fair and square. Manny refusing to come out to fight until the Celtics game had finished showed true arrogance. It was a sucky move to the Celtics as well. The game went into overtime and he watched it all before making his entrance to the ring. Lost to Floyd in 2015 to end the debate, Horn in 2017 and Ugas in 2020. He did have a good win vs Thurman in 2019. He was a great fighter and credit to him for drawing with Barrios after being old and out of the sport for so long. But I feel his career gets more credit than what he deserves. The mega fight with Floyd should of happened in 2008 or 2009. But we'll never know. How did Manny move up so many weight classes too? Floyd gets accused of performance enhancing drugs, so does Pacquaio. A great fighter and a brilliant prime. But he can't be considered on Floyd Mayweathers level. Last bit not least, he did get knocked out 3 times jn his career.
Nah mate look at Pac's earlier career when he fought guys in their prime at their proper weight like Barrera, Morales and Marquez. Pac was a lot smaller than Floyd and still was a massive threat to him at Welterweight which is why he didn't want anything to do with him circa 2009. He also took apart Margarito who Floyd also didn't want a bar of.
No one that popular isn't going to be overrated. We're all just human. All glory goes to God. God decides who wins and who loses. But my promoter decides who fights. He waited for Barrera to have a metal plate put in his head before he even thought about giving him a shot at the Pinoy title.
i think he was underrated. i cant think of a smaller welter that has achieved as high a level at welter that manny did. he gave up size to everyone there. all after having collected a nice belt full of hof scalps on his way there.
Cheers mate haha. It's Jimmy Darmody from "Boardwalk Empire" great show I highly recommend it if you haven't seen it mate. It had a lot of the same writers as the Soprano's. I have been re watching it recently.
Hmmmm boy are you fat. Great Sopranos character though. How good was that episode when he challenged the doctor. Make a wish foundation lol.
JMM completely exposed Pac, everybody has that playbook now. Pac comes in with his 1-2-1-2 bs, slip to the left, stick out your right hand (or throw it deadly) and Pac runs right in to it. Follow with the hook. He was extremely overrated and would have had strings of losses after JMM showed the way.
You're welc-wait a minute! I've tried that on other posters! It's not gonna work when it's turned around on me!
He had a great prime but if anything I agree and say he gets overrated a bit. He should have lost most of the Marquez series, In fact I’m not sure if he clearly won one, he lost at least 3 of them. And that was him in his prime. Morales schooled him and even trolled him, albeit a Pac coming up in weight. He did win the next two, how pumped up he was with roids at that point who knows. He destroyed Hatton, but Ricky found his level that night and his lifestyle caught up to him. De La Hoya was shot and old. Good wins v Cotto, Margarito etc, but I never thought too much of them except maybe Cotto. He was stopped twice in the lighter weights although he was young, he looked terrible against Singsurat who was never exactly great. He was a physical beast in his prime, but he had a lot of help let’s say..his boxing ability for an all time great was not the best, Mayweather, Morales, Marquez, even Singsurat at the time were all better boxers. PACs speed and power were unusual though.
I think this is a good post. I feel Marquez got ripped off vs Manny. I did predict he'd finally win the 4th fight he was paying over $4. Justice was served when it was taken out of the judges hands.
