Paul Williams was once called 'the most feared fighter' in boxing. Supposedly had an 'iron chin' I quote from a couple of people over the years.. This guy seems damaged goods after Martinez got to him in there two bouts. He had; A 12 round barnburner which some think Martinez won. Williams took some big shots throughout, along with being floored early on in the fight but pulled through the 12 rounds and got the decision. The second bout Williams again eating overhands from Martinez. This time Martinez not leaving it to the judges by brutally knocking him out cold (impressive considering Williams had decent whiskers and had never really been badly hurt). Williams looked terrible last night to, and was beat up by Lara. His defense hasn't got any better so I'm inclined to think he could suffer another KO defeat very soon. Now, I'm not one to say fighters get ruined by this guy or that guy but.. Did Maravilla single handily ruin Williams?
Quintana's administered schooling three and a half years ago was unparalleled. Even at this point. The Williams hype should have died right there - but nooooo... The reality is the boxing media and fan community is full of fanboy ******s, immature morons, and ****ing idiots. When Williams came back and knocked out Quintana in the first round of the rematch that somehow erased all of Paul's flaws and deficiencies. The collective IQ of everybody involved has to be 70 or 80 tops. Now, NOW, 3 and 4 years later they have the playbook on Williams. Now. Finally. They have it.
i think we can agree Williams-Quintana II was the fluke. Not the first fight. Paul Williams was always overrated and has the ring IQ of a crumbling cookie. Nahimsayin?
I was reeling when I saw people saying this guy would beat Floyd. that was after the Quintana fights. hype was unreal back then.
Mayweather sure as hell ain't knocking out or trading with Paul Williams..that's for sure. So this thread is null and void.
The way Williams takes straight left hands, right hooks, well any punch and does nothing to improve is astonishing. His idiot coach didnt help either. Hes not even a has been. Hes a never was.
Always questioned the guy, whenever somebody is 6'2 and not using his jab effectively against 5'8 opponents you know there's a serious problem. Nathan Cleverly will go down the same route too :deal
You made some good points, but it really did not start with Quintana. Even orthodox opponents found PDub easy to hit with most any kind of a left hand.
