Since putting the cat among the Rocky pigeons with my thread about Marciano's ability ,[or lack of it ,]as a one punch kayo artist. And being gratified by the response,[273 replies,] I thought I would pose this question. Was Rocky Marciano a harder hitter than Joe Frazier? ps I'm often accused of hating both, so I trust there will be no vitriol aimed in my direction with this thread? Gentlemen, I use the term loosely , your opinions please!
He is my Ace Of Spades in the hole, might as well talk like a racist since I'm accused of being one.:yep
No. I dont know if Frazier hit harder but Marciano hit no harder than Frazier. I'll tell you how I know: In 1968 I was walking down the street in Memphis. This man came around the corner, hit me in my chest, and knocked me down. I looked up and said "Your Rocky Marsheeana!" He said, "Im sorry I thought you were someone else." true story.
I think that Marciano had more power, yes. If you compare highlight footage of them, Frazier has much faster hands, but his punches don't have the numbing effect on his opponents that Marciano's do.
I doubt it. His 13th round KO of Walcott was awesome, but take that one KO away, and I'd say it's at best inconclusive. But does it really matter? Both could bang.
This is a bizarre statement. He had a whole shed load of brutal knockouts, and he stopped everybody he fought of any note.
I don't like comparisons of Power because a world class knock out is a world class knockout. All anyone needs to know is Did the man knock out world class fighters? If yes, then he is a world class knockout puncher. that is it. The left hook Frazier landed on Foster was right up there with anything. He hit about as hard with that left as anyone. Same with Marciano. Could Walcott be any more knocked out? I suppose the main difference is that Rocky had Knockout power in both hands.
Geez...that's crazy. Started recently doing Krav...I think it is making me more paranoid though... Marciano hit harder.
Marciano possibly packed more power in a single punch when he had a chance to land one of his harder shots. I doubt the difference between the two is vast however.
George Chuvalo had one of the best chins of all time and was stopped by, wait for it........ Joe Frazier.
