Did Marciano Hit Harder Than Frazier?

The answer is a resounding..."YES!!!"

 

I think they are pretty comparable. Rocky had the better right, Joe the left. To me they were neck and neck.

 

Langford hit harder than either, he was an anomaly ...

 

I wonder if people's answer had been any different had Frazier unleashed that ****ed left when he had Bugner out on his feet. He might actually have killed the durable Bugner had he done so.

For me, Marciano had better two-handed power, but he had no single punch that surpassed Joe's left hook.

 

Just an interesting side note. I recently spoke with a former California state heavyweight champion named Stan Ward. He was a sparring partner for Foreman in Zaire and then worked with Frazier as he prepared for his third fight with Ali. Stan told me that Frazier hit him the harder of the two, that his punches had more snap to them. I just finished the new George Chuvalo book and Chuvalo compared Foreman to getting hit by a Mack truck at 50 mph and Frazier to getting hit by a Pontiac at 100 mph.

 

So now we need a volunteer that can sustain a hit from Mack truck and a Pontiac at varying speeds and live to tell the tail. Then we can put this thread to rest

 

Frazier had a great left hook one of the best,Marciano had a great right hand one of the best the difference was that Marciano also had an excellent left hook and while Frazier's left hook may have been better than Marciano's left hook Marciano also had the right hand

Frazier was heavier but I think Marciano is underrated in the speed dept. once he got going, his combinations were good but I do think highly of the prime Frazier and the FOTC version that beat Ali that hook in the 11th and 15th were lovely and Frazier weighed in at 206

 

Jimmy Ellis is a very under rated fighter who was on an exceptional roll going into the Frazier fight and Joe absolutely destroyed him. He has him down twice in the fourth and was saved by the bell. Dundee stopped the fight to save his fighter's life. That might have been Joe's best performance. He did some number on an Ellis I personally believe beats any of the guys Marciano fought for the title at the ages he fought them. You also have to take into consideration that Frazier was fighting much better big guys ..
