Ward was a ranked heavyweight for a while I seem to remember he had very big thighs. South African Gerrie Coetzee, often accused of being racist was best man at his wedding . Thanks for the info,I believe Frazier was hard on sparring partners,Eddie Bossman Jones said no one pissed Foreman off in sparring just in case he got mad.

I sense people want to down grade a knockout punch due to size.
a cruiserweight will knockout a super heavyweight if he gets the right connection.

Joe Louis was under 200lb for some of the best knockouts he produced. Being heavier makes more impression with regular punches but the actual knockout punch will do the same job.

There is no doubt in my mind that the left hook that Floyd Patterson knocked ingo Johansson out with would have knocked out Lennox Lewis and Riddick Bowe.

That's not to say Floyd necessarily beats Lewis and Bowe because he has an awful lot to deal with before reaching their chins with the most perfect punch of his career. But it is saying if Floyd makes the same connection with the same punch it will do the same job on both guys.

There is doubt in my mind ,because it isn't proven.I also think Ingo's chin was less than top level.

Lewis was flattened twice by one punch knockouts and Bowe was lucky not to get stopped on his feet after holyfeild one timed him . With a left hook.

You will get back to me about the extra weight of holyfeild and McCall compared to Floyd but for now concentrate on the knockout connection of Floyd's gazelle punch and the chins of Lewis and Bowe in the examples I used.

Both were hard hitters for their time and their level of opposition. In today's scheme of things they'd be below-mediocre punchers at HW. Both would be competing at CW or possibly even LHW.

There is no evidence that great fighters should be mediocre at anything. It would be harder for them to cope with the weight and strength of larger guys... but if they make the same solid connections and land flush with their best examples on exposed chins they absolutely knock any giants out.

Ward said that when he went down to Dublin, California (after his first pro fight) to audition to become Foreman's sparring partner, the fellow in the ring right before him made Foreman mad and George belted him with a punch that knocked him thru the ropes and onto the floor below. At that point, one of Foreman's handler's hollered, "NEXT."

Love Jim Brown's story about Ali and Foreman prior to Zaire .. ABC wanted Jim to spar with both and discuss .. he went to Ali's camp first and did a bit of sparring and discussed it .. he then went to Foreman's camp, saw George sparring and then told the guys from ABC they could get in the ring w Foreman ...

Jim Brown was no fool. Just consider...if this was a street fight...or a fight with no rules, Foreman would have killed Muhammad Ali. He was no joke.

I don't consider either Floyd or Ingo great fighters. You are making a statement as though it is a proven fact when in reality it is just your opinion.

I was referring to marciano and Fraziers power and using Floyd's punch as an example. A great shot is a great shot. And it takes out whoever it lands flush on. Madballster was saying Frazier and Marciano would be mediocre today because they were both small. They might struggle with the weight and strength of bigger men but there was nothing mediocre about their knockout punching.
