You have to remember that Rocky didn't have to know he was being helped by the mob. He was such a bad boxer technicaly that people who knew the game were eager to bet against him. The mob controlled at lot of his early opponents and could get those guys to lay down. It may not have been necessary but it's better to be sure. But in those early 4 and 6 rounders a good experienced boxer could have out pointed him before he eventually caught them. All the mob needed to know was who the lover was going to be. The winner may have never known he was in a fixed fight.

The only reason I clicked on this thread was to make this same joke. Looks like I was just 9 years too late.

I'm aware its an old post but Cockell was on his feet when the fight was stopped.
Marciano visited Carbo in hospital Carbo, was Weill's boss.Marciano was as clean as he could be in the 50's.

It depends on what you mean by ties. I was raised in the Jersey and Philadelphia area. But I live in Maine now. You still could make a case that I have ties to the Mafia. I certainly knew some that did. Many thought my Grandfather had ties to the Mafia. Some people in my family certainly do, or at least did. Then again, it depends on your definition of the word Mafia, also.
