Tyson focused more on bodyweight workout, Marciano more on running and cardio on heavybag.

I don't think you should take the reports of Tyson doing three hours calisthenics a day more seriously than you should the more fanciful ones about Rocky's training.

    Why not?
Rocky'a training was not fancy like today instagram boxers but his training was running in combat boots, throwing rocks, swimmimg while Tyson would do push ups, pull ups, shrugs...for hours.

Because both are untrue. Neither trained nearly as much as in those reports. Look in this thread. Rocky didn't run more than Tyson.

Yes, Rocky did run more than Tyson, and did cardio more than Tyson that's why Tyson couldn't fight for 12 let alone 15 rnds.

    Nonsense.

You have proof in this very thread that Rocky didn't do any running out of the ordinary.

This narrative that he did some special sort of training which left him lighter than he'd otherwise be is just a fantasy to pretend that he wasn't a small HW.

Marciano trained just like other pro fighters in the pre Shilton era and he lost a very typical amount of weight in camp. He was just smaller than most HW champions. There isn't more to it than that.

And I don't know where you got the notion that Tyson couldn't go 12 rds. He did so several times. And the 12 with Ruddock were tough and competitive.

He didn't have any extraordinary stamina, but that isn't to be expected from such a hyper explosive fighter.

He did not only run forwards but backwards too to make his legs and balance better, and Rocky runned twice the mileage Tyson did.
He could be 200 lb lean pounds if he trained calisthenics like Tyson and not run like a maniac.

Marciano was the best conditioned fighter in history , that didn't came from training like Tyson.

Except that everyone who actually knew him confirmed that he did.

Rocky ran 3 to 6 miles a day. And not at a quick pace.

I'm an old man and run that much. At a significantly quicker pace.

Ben Bentley, Rocky's press agent and friend, told me Rocky would normally run at least 5-6 miles a day year round, but when a fight was signed he'd increase the distance to 9-10 miles, and usually the last week up it to 12-15 miles. On top of this, he liked to walk another 5-10 miles in the late afternoon or evening.

    He lied.

I have already quoted Rocky's daily regime for the Walcott2 and Charles2 fights, as told by two different reporters who stayed for several days at his camp. It was that of a weekend warrior who had someone paying his bills. 3-6 miles of very slow running in the morning, napping and eating till 3. 90 minutes of gym work, then ping pong, pool, napping and asleep by 8:30. I have done harder and held down a full time job. Well, I didn't have a ping pong table.

Yes he did. Rocky and Plenty of other fighters before and after him had a natural body weight of over 200 lbs and would train down to 180s or 190s. When Rocky first started competing in the army he fought and won at 200 - 210 lbs. At 200-210 lbs Marciano was in shape, but he wasn't in perfect fighting trim, which fighters rarely come anywhere close to today.

During his days as an upcoming fighter because he fought so often he stayed at a trim 193 lbs, but once he was champion he usually started camp at his natural weight of 200-210 lbs and would gradually train down to 193-196 lbs. Guys like Corbett, Dempsey, Tunney (as Champion), Clarence Henry, Walcott, Jim Flynn, Machen, Quarry, etc.... are also guys that were naturally over 200 pounds, but trained down like Marciano.

Here is a piece discussing Marciano preparing for his fight with Don C**kell a few months before. Charley Goldman points out that after a month of training Marciano is already in trim shape.

Marciano, unbeaten in 47 fights, said he didn't care who he fought. But claimed he had been informed that C**kell was "a good fighter." Asked what he knew about the British boxer Rocky said "All I know is that he's on the chunky side and he beat Harry Matthews."

Charley Goldman, Marciano's trainer, said the champ weighs 196 pounds after coming to camp a month ago at 208. This will be his fifth defense of the crown he won in 1952 by knocking out Walcott in a thriller in Philadelphia. Rocky will remain in training until May with a few days off now and then. If the fight is in San Francisco he probably will move west in April.

Here is a piece with Marciano reflecting on his career in 1957 and talks about his current shape.

"My fight with Don C**kell, which was not one of my greatest achievements, started me thinking retirement," Marciano went on.

"I began to interview old fighters. When had they sensed that it was time to quit? Most of them told me that they had gone two fights beyond their limits. I made up my mind not to commit that sort of mistake."

"I determined to quit while still champion, and after a job which had earned the commendation of fans and writers, alike."

"I will say this. There was nothing lacking in my attitude toward fighting in my training for, or my actual contest, with Moore. He had been carrying on quite a pop-off campaign. He got me sore. He had been telling the world how he was going to win the title from me, an awkward fighter."

"The experts say that against Archie I was at my peak. Except for one punch, in the second round, Moore never hurt me. I got low and belted his body. I smothered him even if I could not get to the head. I set the pace. In a few rounds I even outboxed him."

"However, in my own private book, my greatest victory was over Rex Layne, whom I stopped in the sixth round on my way to the title. I figure I ruined his career."

"Now, it's all over. That guff about me being so fat I could not return to fighting is a lie. Look at me."

Marciano had dieted down to 215 pounds, only five over the weight at which he usually started training for a battle.
