https://www.boxingforum24.com/threads/clips-marcianos-big-training-camp-steak-dinners.597463/ This post was interesting. Marciano's diet was 2lbs of steak, 2 baked potatoes and a large green salad with milk, every day after training and no food outside of that. Seems effective, replenishes the muscles and keeps a caloric deficit to stay lean. If he ate more, he didn't train in such a way to add muscle imo, so it wouldn't be helpful for gaining quality size.
Fighters typically just have a weight they feel best fighting in. Sometimes they add weight tactically or lose it - it can just depend on the opponent.
Floyd Patterson himself admitted in his book that cus made him wait until Rocky retired before he became ranked at heavyweight. Cus thought he didn’t stand a chance against Rocky.
If Rocky stood behind Tua nobody would know he was there! Tua was 20 when he weighed 201lbs, Marciano was a chubby 24 at192lbs Tua got heavier as he matured, Marciano got lighter as he got trained. Look at the tale of the tape stats Marciano weighed about as much as one of Tua's legs. It really is time to put this ridiculous comparison to bed.
I'm aware of that, and it certainly would've been risky for Floyd to challenge Marciano. However, Rocky would also have taken a risk by accepting the challenge. One shouldn't assume that Marciano would roll over Patterson. The 1956 Rocky was not the same guy who knocked out Joe Louis in 1951.
Marciano at the age of 26 weighed 180lbs for the Vingo fight. Tua, at 24 weighed 226lbs for the Ibeabuchi fight. 46lbs difference but "Rockistas" like to tell us Marciano could have added 40lbs to his body and still have had the stamina ,and conditioning he possessed. This is done in a desperate attempt to deflect from the fact that today he would be a midget fighting against today's heavies.
He was. Rocky is why he didn’t move up to heavyweight. Is it any coincidence he moved up in the same year Rocky announced his retirement?
You implied Rocky partially retired because of Floyd Patterson, when at the time, he wouldn’t have even been on his radar. Rocky retired because his manager was cheating him out of money, not because he was shot at 31. he was only 31. Swarmers age faster than other boxers true, but he still would’ve had enough to beat Floyd. Cus certainly thought so according to Patterson.
Yes, of course he did. The majority of HWs from the 70's and prior had training regimes & diets that resulted in them being lighter come fight time, than they would be in good, but not elite, shape. The majority of HW's from the 90's onwards had/have training regimes & diets that result in them being heavier come fight time, than they would be in "natural", good shape. Particularly the naturally smaller (by modern standards) HWs. e.g. Usyk has recently spoken about how hard he finds it to keep his weight up around 220lbs. Haye, Moorer & Holyfield clearly got smaller & lighter once they stopped competing. Even Lennox Lewis added around 15-20lbs of muscle once he teamed up with Steward. In the case of the majority of fighters competing at HW around the 60's and prior, if they were around today, they'd have the option of continuing with a calorie deficit diet, complete with complimentary "supplements" & training regime, and dehydrate down to a lower weight for the weigh in, OR; change to calorie surplus diet, complete with complimentary "supplements" & training regime, and compete at HW weighing more than they did in their own time. In Marciano's case, if were around now he'd likely dehydrate to LHW and rehydrate to c.185lbs come fight night.
