Not in the slightest for me. Ortiz got him out of there in six rounds. Considering martin has improved quite a bit and ortiz was a much better style match up than joshua and considering ortiz is primarily a counter puncher getting the job done in six is a good result. The problem ortiz has had is the only decent guys really willing to fight him in recent years are rangey guys that its hard to counter punch against plus no one has ever done to jennings what ortiz did...not wlad and not joyce even tho he fought a much longer in the tooth version of jennings. I still say ortiz is the goods albeit an ageing one that still can take an oppertunity against a guy that cant stay out of range on him.
Mad? Nope. The reality is, Wilder and ancient Vlad are your boys best wins. Not even close enough to be in the top 10 HW of all time, let alone the GOAT. But Usyk will be a very good win, but the narrative will be, Fury's best wins are a Limited Wilder, an old Vlad and a blown up cruiserweight. Still not enough to break into the top 10 best HW's.
I don't think anyone will try to discredit Fury if he beats Usyk lol Usyk is literally the best Cruiser of all time (If you don't like him he is at least top 2 all time) Usyk destroyed AJ and the hardest part of the fight was the headbutt Usyk is p4p #1 If they discredit that they need to go to the mental ward
Understand when I say Fury isn't that good, I'm speaking in terms of being the GOAT. He is definitely a hard nights work for every HW in history. Just doesn't show on his accomplishments.
You new to this site? LOL You know good and well haters will spin Usyk as a small HW. But yeah, Usyk is an excellent win at CW or HW.
Did Luis Ortiz brutally KOing Charles Martin to become the IBF mandatory for the Joshua-Usyk winner hurt Wilder's resume? Um... no. Will Luis Ortiz winning the IBF, WBA and WBO heavyweight titles from the Joshua-Usyk winner hurt Wilder's resume? Um ... no.
Only to people who undermine context. This was a much worse Ortiz than the versions Wilder fought, and this was a better Martin than the one Joshua fought (wasn't bought). Ortiz still KO'd Martin. I think that tells a fairly straightforward story, although it's fairly insignificant.
Yep, plus this was a version of Martin who hadn't fought in almost 2 years. All he had to do was move around a bit and Ortiz who loves to counter was befuddled. He reaches in trying to get to opponents and walks into a counter himself, Ortiz's lack of agility is a big weakness. Sure Martin looked good vs Ortiz and Washington but that's because they too are not that good. Washington isn't even gate keeper level and this version of Ortiz is shot.
That doesn't even make sense. Shot fighters do not get off the floor twice to turn around and win by brutal KO.
Ortiz actually didn't look too bad considering he's been inactive for over a year and he's 42 going on 43 years old. That said Ortiz is just too old now and his legs are completely gone. This win over Martin should be able to get another Ortiz one more good payday before retiring.
A boxer is as good as his last fight Ortiz got a second chance he's ranked #1 waiting for Usyk. Nothing more exciting than two heavies banging each other the show last night was dramatic better than those Rose bowls I would rather see a knockout over a touchdown.
If he's not shot he's damn close to it at 42. Also remember Povetkin got dropped twice by Whyte and then KO'ed Whyte. At heavyweight all it takes is one punch.
Well at the time Povetkin wasn't shot either. Past his athletic prime, certainly, but not shot. Nobody who KOs the #1 contender can be called shot, let alone getting off the floor to do it. I think the common understanding of the term is a boxer who can't pull the trigger anymore, has no more punch resistance, and can't win big fights.
