He has 2 losses (legitimate), one when he was still green, another when he was already gray. As far as I am concerned, he is HoF worthy, given his credentials, skillset and willingness to face the best opposition.
he has wins over... Barker Macklin Pavlik Dzinzuruk Chavez JR Williams x2 Richard Williams he didn't beat Murray, so i can't accept that. i can't put him in with so little. he has a good resume, but not one worthy of the Hall.
Maybe not good enough for an American to make it in. But because the HOF strives to be international, there's a chance it might let him squeak in because he's from Argentina/Spain.
Looking at the big picture, I expect him to get in: 1. True middleweight champions get in, historically. 2. He's a hero in Argentina. 3. He's a class act 4. He beat Chavez Jr. in a big fight. 5. He had international influence, beating the English guys. 6. Knockout of the year against P. Will
At the end of the day, you gotta think, there was a time period where Martinez completely dominated the middleweight division. He took on all comers and easily beat them. He was unbeatable. And this was a small guy facing way bigger guys. Then when you look below, Mayweather said, "I'll fight the winner of Williams vs Martinez." Williams knocked him out hard. Round the same time Pacquiao knocked Hatton out hard I think. And Mayweather ran away like a lil bltch. So, you gotta put that on his resume too.
Nope. Let's see, he beat a shopworn Pavlik, who had just had his soul taken by Hopkins. He then KO'd 147/154 pounder Paul Williams, and stopped 154 pounder Dzinziruk. He then fought real middleweight contenders, and struggled with unheralded, and previously unrated Darren Barker, Mathew Macklin, and Martin Murray, getting a gift decision at home against Murray. He beat Chavez Jr, but almost got KO'd at the end. He then got his arse handed to him by past it Miguel Cotto, a 154 pounder, who against meaningful opponents, had lost his last two fights. Sergio Martinez wouldn't have made it as a 90s middleweight. He may have been a contender but that is it. Guys like Darren Barker, Mathew Macklin, Dzinziruk, Williams etc., wouldn't have been top ten middleweight back then.
He was the champ for how long? The only guy to KO Williams and second to beat Pavlik. Beat the undefeated Dzinziruk, Barker and Chavez Jr. I don't know if that's good enough but I'd say yes.....
