Marvis has average skill but no chin what so ever.

    None.

People can separate Joe Frazier the boxer from Joe Frazier the manager/trainer.

Not at all. Marvis had some good wins also, he beat Joe Bugner, James Broad, and Bonecrusher Smith, James Tillis, and Jose Ribalta . His 2 losses were to ATG Holmes and Tyson, and in Holmes's opinion which I share is that Marvis should have been a cruiserweight.

    No.

You are right about a couple of things, though.

    1) Marvis was no bum. They had him fighting a weight class too high in a style that didn't suit him. He was a talented boxer, and could have picked up a cruiserweight belt, and then invaded heavy at the right moment.

    2) It was Joe's fault. They wanted to make him more marketable so they taught him a pressure style that did not fit, and threw him in there with Holmes.

Marvis considered his dad a good man, and if he loved his dad and understood, who are we to say? Joe saw what he saw, and undoubtedly wanted his son to succeed. Kind of thing that is best left to the past.

He had an okay chin, but his neck was fused, so flush uppercuts were his kryptonite.

Also, Marvis underestimated Holmes and later admitted that he believed his father when he said Holmes was shot, which is why Marvis foolishly dropped his hands and taunted Holmes, who dropped him like a bad habit.

I don't think anyone ever thought he hurt Joe's legacy. Same as Ronald Hearns did not hurt Tommy or Chavez Jr. hurt Sr. People know the difference.

Marvis was not a bad fighter. Although, he would have done better at cruiser weight, he did beat some good heavies. Although, he never would have cut it against the Tyson's, Holmes and later Bowe's and Lewises of the world.

No one can take Joes legacy. This was more of a styles thing. When determining head to head match ups I always wonder if seeing MF get beat badly by Holmes and Tyson makes others feel Joe would fall in a similar fashion. Joe at his peak was a beast and personally feel he lost his fire after the first Ali fight. Yet he gets beat in so many h2h here I was looking for a reason why. I don’t think it’s unfair to take into account a fighters similar style when applying it to a fighter who’s gone against it. Although you can never duplicate the two you can get an idea. This whole post was worded extremely poorly by me and did not resonate the point I was originally trying to get across.

When you can hang with a guy who took out Witherspoon and almost took out Ruddock, there's a limit to how bad your chin can be.

Yeah but due to styles and Smith's punching power, many would guess that it ought to have been a Foreman/Frazier type of blowout.
