Did Mayweather get some respect even from his detractors after Hatton?

He did not run although there was a lot of holding (from both sides), he fought an exciting fight and closed the show with a spectacular, ring-post involving-knockout. He also didn't make a complete fool out of himself in the post fight interview.

Not saying that you have to be a fan now, but did he at least gain a little respect in your eyes?

He alwyas had respct in my eyes as a boxer, it really is the jackasses that he surrounds himself with that seem to really taint his reputation. I think what is dissapointing is when all his entourage repetedly put down all the people who fight him which just goes to show their own mental stupidity as of course the worse you say ur opponent it the lesser your own achivement.

The few times I have seen Flloyd give a "proper interview" i.e talking one on one in depth about things he always has come across as a knowledgeable, intelligent and caring human being, but put him with the hangers on again and he becomes the jackass. Yes i am aware that often he does it to promote fights, but there is no need to rubbish the legends that cane before him, just makes him look worse.

Full respect as a boxer tho and cudos to a real legend of our time

I remember Floyd saying he acts as the "bad guy" in situations because the media puts him out that way no matter what he does. I don't recall how he was looked at leading up to the Baldomir fight, there wasn't any badmouthing that I know of for that fight. Being flashy isn't really something that detracts me from liking his personality (although I tend to not like arrogant people), but you have to put much of the blame on how the media portrays him to others. I agree that his entourage really does badmouth other fighters, which is never a good thing in this sport as it is Floyd who is a top pound for pound boxer and not Leonard Ellerbe or Roger Mayweather. I had watched the Hatton/Mayweather fight last night and I don't think Roger referred to Ricky once as Ricky, but rather "motherf*cka". I know it's during the fight, but his badmouthing just isn't neccessary leading up to others fights. I don't think he'd like it if Chavez referred to him as "b*tch" in interviews.

Upon review, I must have been wasted or out of my mind or too busy talkin to the girls around me to see what was going on with the fight.

Hatton looked good. He took angles, attempted to use the jab during the first part of the fight, (although I felt he abandoned it too early), and closed the distance quickly.

Hatton did a whole lot right, but Floyd was just the better man.

So yeah, he has my respect.

I have to agree with that. although you will get an awful lot of people saying he was just doing it to stop Hattons cheating tactics. So the real question is why was Hatton warned and docked and MAyweather only warned?

ahh didnt you know? its aparantly text book defense,

    1. stick your elbows in opponents face and rub them along his brow
    2. if in trouble turn your back and draw a foul from your opponenet
    3. Duck below the waistband if your opponent is actually getting threw

last time I looked all 3 were illegal

Sarge you're right by the book these are fouls (and as Ive stated in other threads Cortez was a bit one sided ) but Floyd fought well and was a gracious winner he can't be held accountable for Cortez

Mayweather gets his deserved " props "

I have alot of respect for him as a boxer and always did, i thought he would win the fight but not like he did, he put on a masterclass of boxing. If only he had a better attitude he would have a huge amount of fans, but maybe he just acts like that to sell fights?

The only thing Floyd proved against Hatton is that he can beat a very good ( not great, just very good ) junior welterweight. We already knew that. Let him beat Cotto and Williams in 2008. After that let him publicly acknowledge that historically there are a number of welterweights against whom he would have no chance. Then he gets my respect.

Floyd will get repect from some but most will continue to not like him for some odd ball reason.
