A few years back I was a juror in a domestic violence case.
The procecutions assertion was that the husband struck the wife. Both the wife and husband testified that blows were never exchanged.
A loophole in the juror instructions were that you could find the person guilty for physically restraining another person.
In the case, the husband had grabbed the woman by the arm outside their home trying to restrain her from leaving.

10 of the 12 jurors wanted to find the husband guilty and they voted that way.

The 10 other jurors scolded me and another guy for not voting with them.

The jury instructions said, "you may find the defendant guilty for physically pushing or restraining another person against their will."
10 of the jurors harped on that instuction line.
I explained that the instruction said that "you may find him guilty" not that you "must."

This content is protected
and trying to get the argument back inside instead of where it was at, outside.

The reason I post this is to say that there are many convictions for domestic violence where there is'nt a shred of evidence that someone was physically hit.

years ago, i had a female co-worker who had a large bruise on her left forearm. people that know her outside of work thought she'd gotten beaten up by her boyfriend. however, she denied then that she was abused. less than a month later, she again got beaten up again, black eye, broken hand and she had to go to a women's shelter with her kids.

hopefully that didn't happen to the woman whose husband you acquitted.
