Mayweather did a lot of clinching and elbowing and the ref was biased as hell. Hatton in my opinion put up a gutsy performance. He was well beaten considering the circumstance.
70??? It's funny that you have to LIE in a subject like this. For the record, Mayweather threw 329 punches in that fight, when Hatton threw 372. You do the math. Anyway, the replies in this thread may very well differ, simply because people have a different impression about the meaning of the term "schooling". Imo Calzaghe's win over Lacy was a schooling. Hopkins' win over Pavlik was a schooling. Mayweather's win over Hatton was impressive and I give him mad respect for that performance, but that was not exactly a schooling in my book. Fair enough?
If Mayweather went on the attack from the beggining he would have not won this fight. Mayweathers main tactics was defence and high elbows. At one point he had his head near Hattons knees he was fighting so low. Mayweathers tactics were used to perfection, with help from the ref.
I voted in another thread about it... I'm going against the grain picking Malignaggi by Decision. I didn't think Hatton was convincing in his last fight with Lazcano. Paulie has proved he can take a punch, he's fast and I think he could grind out a points win. But I'm not confident in that prediction, I'm really looking forward to that fight to see what happens.
He schooled him b/c Mayweather knew he was going to knock Hatton out. He set him up for that shot. It was not like it was a fluke hail mary. Mayweather was going for the KO with that shot. He said before the fight he knew how to hurt Hatton. Listen to him post fight, he said "he walked right into it" What was "IT" he walked into Mayweather's trap. In round 8 Mayweather was testing him to see if he was ready to go and he turned it up. He turned it down in round 9 and just was peppering him with jabs all of a sudden. Hatton...could not get off so he what did have to do. Rush in and he got caught. It was the very definition of schooling. And lol at those who said he beat him convincingly as if it went to the cards. He knocked him the **** out.
Floyd said Hatton was one of his toughest fights. Floyd has always maintained Emmanuel Augustus was his toughest fight.
He outclassed Hatton but didn't school him. I still stand by the view that you have to give Hatton big props for taking the fight - he'd be 45 and 0 if he didn't.
This content is protected If you call out the name of the punch you knock somebody out with after the fight.... That is a schooling. Literally.
