Let me set the scene. This was the second biggest boxing night of my life (after Hatton-Zoo). It was my birthday, had a HUGE party at my house, crazy night, room full of people watching at 4am, screaming and shouting for a Hatton win. But... I voted YES. Apart from the few seconds where Ricky hurt Floyd PBF never looked in any trouble. The fact is that Pretty Boy is one of the greatest fighters I will ever see - gutting for me but the truth.
I voted yes to Floyd outclassing Ricky, but think the polls answers differ from the title of the thread. By no means did I think he schooled him. As many have said the fight was competive in the early-mid stages. Ricky had no answers, and no gas in the tank towards the end and Floyd's accuracy and speed got him the impressive KO.
No it didnt. It was his skill and ring intellict that got him the KO. It was like a work of fine art. Its not like he just threw a lot of punches and outworked Hatton. You guys really need to STFU. He set a trap and Hatton walked into it. He was setting that trap up ALL NIGHT. He schooled him. Ask yourself this, did Hatton learn a lesson after that fight. I think we need to queue in Mayweather Sr.
No, that fight does not fit with my definition of a 'schooling'. Calzaghe-Lacy was a schooling. Hopkins-Pavlik was a schooling. Wright-Trinidad was a schooling. A schooling is where if you lift any round out of a fight and watch it in isolation, it is immediately clear who is the clear winner of the fight. I thought rounds 1-6 of Mayweather v Hatton were too close and competitive to call it a 'schooling'.
lol so his accuracy and speed didn't contribute to the KO???? Man you are the worst poster on here. Rude, offensive, ignorant and plain stupid. Where did I say he outworked him or threw more punches??? Learn to read and comprehend before flying off on your zealot rants. Edit* - Ps and I guess you meant intellect rather than intellict???
Hatton didn't win a round in that fight no matter how close anyone thought the score cards were. Schooling a fighter doesn't always mean painting a picture. There are many ways to school a fighter, and you would have had to have boxed to know that lol... No offense to anyone.
Could you show me that footage / quote? Because I just watched a youtube clip in which he said Augustus was the toughest guy he faced. Could be outdated footage though.
The biggest thing was he fought hattons fight. People were saying he was going to run and pop shot him from the outside. He stayed in the middle and traded with him. Hatton likes to fight on the inside and fight a rough fight. Floyd gave him that fight. Hatton camp seriously underestimated Floyds conditioning and strength. I dont know why, as he trains year round, does blow up in weight and spars 15 rounds. His stamina is great, he just usually never has to use it. Hatton camp assumed he could go in there and throw a few body shots and Floyd would crumble. Floyd beat Hatton at his own game. Gave him an inside and rough fight. At the end Hatton gets KOed and is bitching about a few elbows.
Mayweather's people were right when they called Hatton one-dimensional.Billy Graham acted as if it was a ludicrous statement.
PBF introduced ricky hatton to the check hook lol and laid the a key weapon to beat hatton's lunging in style, the short quick left hook is hatton worst enemy he did not totaly outclass him but i remember thinking when i was watching it towards the end of the second round OMG, you could clearly see mayweather had Hattons number, for sure but i was remember sitting there and i started hoping hatton would land a big hook to floyds ribs and fold him, but i was no fool and knew the chances were very very slim
LoL. I gotta agree with Toopretty. It ads insult to injury when you call the name of the punch that KO'd your opponent.
