that's it, boxing is F'ed if this is the only thing a boxing writer can find to write about TODAY, than the future is bleak
Nope! USADA never has a chance in a professional sport like boxing. the WADA protocol (which USADA follows) requires a no window, year round testing - off season, on-season testing. Unlike the amateurs where tournaments are scheduled on regular basis, year in, year out, professional fights are whimsical. Some fighters fight every 3 months, some view their fights as "superbowl" and fight once a year if you are lucky. Example, in Amateur boxing, there is World Amateurs, the regionals, the olympic try-out, etc. which are more or less regularly done. Or in running, there is the world athletics, etc. Under such regular schedule, athletes can easily be tested. In professional fight, who would go to Timbuktu or General Santos city to just test one fighter who won't even be fighting? Then there is the matter of who is going to pay for the tests. In the amateurs, the different governments contribute to the local Olympic committee, and that is where the IOC derives their money to do the testing. The USADA gets its money from the US government and it barely enough. In professional fights, not all fighters are getting Gay's purse. Some are actually paid 500 dollars, and most don't even get 10 thousand dollars per fight. Do you think they could set aside a part of their purse to pay for the testing?
