Did Mayweather's 'peak of his prime' end after he left 130?

Everytime I watch Floyd's career set, I find myself not all that interested in watching any of his fights above 130 cause he just seemed like he was never the same exact fighter he was when he was 130 pounds. Don't get me wrong he was still at his prime at 135 but he didn't seem to be at the "peak" of it.

Do ya think fighters like Castillo would have given the same exact problems to Floyd or even a gatekeeper like Victoriano Sosa who gave Floyd a somewhat tougher fight at 135 but does it go the same at 130?

quick answer is yes. that's when he was at his VERY best. he had amazing performances against gatti and n'dou above 130 but they were tailor made for him

at 130-could he beat or be competitive with every fighter in division history? yes
at 135 and above-could he beat or be competitive with every fighter in division history? not even close

As for the bolded part, I'm not so sure I agree or disagree with that, but I can clearly see him being competitive with the likes of Duran, Chavez, Whitaker but this is boxing and surprisingly one sided fights have happened but in a trilogy with those 3 mentioned fighters I can see Floyd getting at least a win each off of any of them.

good point and as i wrote it, it did seem extreme. because of his skill set and techincal brilliance, he'd be COMPETITIVE in any era at any weight up to 140. but he wouldn't have the dominance he had an junior light

For me, Floyd absolute peak was his 130 days, but to be honest the man's prime is still going as far as I see it. To me that is Floyd's greatest achievement, maintaining his prime this long. The guy has been fighting to the same level of performance for 12 years or so. OK, this has been allowed by the fact that he doesn't fight often and many of his opponents through his prime were pretty shabby, but I see no signs that he is clearly past-prime even yet. He was very quick and sharp against Marquez, and he looked very strong and very energetic against Mosley. The prime continues until we see some very definite signs that he is on the downward arc.

i was just thinking about they way he fought at 130 and they way he did afterwards.i think after being a buzz a few times in his fights he started to not fight as agressive as he use to.ww and higher he i more of a mover boxer, but i dont think it had anything to do with peak or prime, i think thats just how he chooses to fight.a more cautions approach when he fights now.

i miss the lightweight floyd, can forget about him fighting like that now.against certain style fighters you might get it in spots but thats about it.

I think you are linking Floyds "peak" to How exciting a fighter he is and was, and not actually thinking about the question you have set.

His physical peak may have been back at 130, but his mental peak is now. His style has changed to accomadate his body changes but i really am not sure i could say i have seen any signs in him wilting as a fighter.

When he came back from "retirement" i saw a toally different Floyd to what i have seen before. I actually think he is at his best now. Back at his lower weight he was more aggressive but got hit more. Apart from 1 round since his return can you honestly say he has been hurt or caught clean?

To me he is doing what a boxer should do better than he has before.

    Thats just my 2 cents.

    ofcourse it ended after that..

thats why theres lack of comments from haters on this thread.

why give floyd credit for some of his wins above 130 when all they do is hate the guy in every other thread..

its funny when i hear these idiots say pbf is waiting for manny to get passed it when floyd aint even close to how good and fast he was before

Floyd admitted that he used to have to starve himself for 4 days in order to make 130 lbs. He was NEVER a natural 130 lber.

to be honest, you don't know who's a hater and who isn't. even people who hate floyd may give him his just due at 130.

in fact, the haters may be more willing to jump on this thread to say he's been worthless since 130 and nearly a decade has been wasted.

as it is, he's the consensus at WORST 2nd best at 130 all time and one of the best of his generation, made all the more brilliant by his dominance despite age and potential deterioration of physical abilities

Castillo 2, DLH, Hatton and Mosley are all significant wins since 130 but obviously 130 is where he ranks highest.
