I made an arguement about Spinks hitting harder than any 160 pounder in history on a tread because someone said his fight v Tyson was like a LH v a MW, wwas I right, I also said no middleweight could take the shots that knocked Rooney out at heavyweight, could any middleweight really take those shots?

Did Michael Spinks hit harder than any or every middleweight in history?

I say no, I don't believe Spinks hit harder than eg. Ray Actis, who fought at both 160 and 175, and even at Hvy. So there's one.

Is it true that no middleweight could withstand Spinks' punches on Gerry Cooney?

Hmm, toughie, because weight classes exist for a reason. Its theoretically possible, but we'd be talking about a seriously unhealthy or crazy individual to do so. Heavyweights deal in extreme power, even the crap ones (taking and receiving) and a little guy is always a little guy.

My point was more theoretical than anything. But men really do exist who just cannot be knocked down, really don't feel pain, have weirdly wired nervous systems and or even just like being hurt, badly.

You'd have to look an olden era fighter, maybe say Joe Grim at middle absorbing the Fitz punishment, but against Spinks with the added weight and today's referee - he'd surely be 'rescued' = stoppage. Also, does Spinks vs Cooney hit harder than Fitz vs Grim...probably.

    Yes. By some distance.

It's arguable he hit harder than any light-heavyweight in history too.

Jackson was too small to punch as hard as a light heavy.

No I think Foster and Moorer hit harder at 175.

Yes or no, what possible takeaway would we have from this? I don't understand the point.

McClellan was a big middleweight, so maybe. But Jackson was coming up from 154

    McClellan.

Lindell Holmes beat him once toe-to-toe in the ams, in the return match Spinks ‘boxed’ Holmes to go to Olympics

I knew a guy Francisco who was a cruiserweight and he sparred John Mugabi. He said the Beast did hit him harder than some 190 pounders he faced but it was his best shot, not the usual give and take in a fight if you know what I mean. I very seriously doubt any middleweight ever hit harder than Spinks. But as you say,,,nobody at lightheavy carried the bomb like Bob Foster
