Maybe he didnt train enough? Im sure Vic trained well he seems to always be in good shape. I know its about styles making fights and both of them are fighters that like to read off of what there opponent is doing. But still... Mijares didnt have hardly any footwork. It seemed after a few rounds he didnt think he would be able to box from a distance so he wanted to walk Vic down but that didnt work either. Is it because he just doesnt have good enough footwork? Also I didnt see his strong right jab. I know Vic slipped a few of them but still.. he should have kept trying.. I will have to rewatch the fight to go over this though. Not trying to make excuses or anything just saying for the biggest fight of Mijares' career its somewhat of a dissapointment. Maybe the huge knockdown in the 1st took something out of him. But to be honest Vic really did put in on him real good.. so maybe thats the answer.. :bbb
I should have known better to have bet on Mijares. Didn't know too much about him, but went along with the crowd:gsg and bet on him to win. I should have listened to my brain, which said, "If Mijares can barely get by Navarro and Munoz, then Vic Darchinyan definitely has a chance."
I think most were suprised with how easily Vic handled Mijares......Either one of two things happened imo......either Mijares was overconfident and did'nt fine tune himself in the Gym........Mijares just was'nt sharp at all.Vic was sharp with alot of his shots, but what suprised me the most was that Mijares was getting tagged with looping shots that he'd normally see coming a mile away.......I cant take nothing away from Vic Darchinyan however......clearly he was on his game.....and it could very well have been that his wacky way of throwing shots, and from wierd angles, just confused Mijares.......I cant get over Mijares getting tagged clean by looping shots though....it could be a sign that he was'nt defensively sharp because he did'nt work proper in the gym.......or it could just mean that Vic just has his number.Time will tell.....but in the meantime, hats off to Vic Darchinyan for a job well done.WOW! Btw, Mijares certainly did'nt tank it or mentally surrender......He fought to win all the way, even taking the fight to Vic by being the aggressor when fighting off the backfoot was'nt working for himWhen alot of fighters would have tanked it and fought to survive, it was Mijares' aggression, as he was fighting to win, is what got him KTFO!As far as I'm concerned, Mijares went out like the champion he was, fighting!
Mijares panicked pretty early on. He was totally helpless in there for very long stretches during that fight. He acted like he'd forgotten everything he ever learned or knew how to do. You don't see something like that very often. Especially from someone who seems more sure of themselves in a boxing ring than most people who have ever stepped in one. Darchinyan took his soul.
It happened simply because Darchinyan has no respect for Mijares' power. If he can't maintain a distance from a slugger like Darchi, then it is lights out. Even in the first round, Darchi was just walking through Mijares like a hot knife cutting a butter. This is in contrast to the Donaire fight where Darchi tasted Donaire's power very early and that made him wary and kept his distance. The lunging left that lead to the KO was actually a result of trying to close that gap. Mijares is slick no doubt but his greatest weakness is that he does not have a KO punch and sluggers would just walk through him even if being outpunch by a ratio of 2. Some posters are just ridiculous insinuating sometimes that Mijares power is in the league of Donaire. Contrast this to JMM, a slickster with very respectable power and you will see that even sluggers like Pac would have to maintain certain distance.
mijares didn't surrender he just didn't show up.He kept waiting and waiting and during that waiting period he was getting hit with everything. He wasn't working off his jab and was being suckered in by every faint and every left hand.He had chances to capitalize on vic throwing that hook and leaving his chin open but he didn't.Bottom line is he showed up to a war with a handgun against a guy with wmd's
I dont agree that it was Vic's lack of respect for Mijares' power that was the key....Even with Vic not respecting Mijares' power, you'd think that Vic would have missed plenty trying to load up, not respecting that power......but like I said earlier, even when Vic was loading up, and throwing telegraphed looping shots, he was'nt missing Mijares, which was quite unusual for a fighter the slick and quick pedigree of Mijares.
DAMN STRAIGHT BROTHER ! A GUY LOSES ONE FIGHT THEN ALL THESE KEYBOARD TOUGH GUYS WRIE HIM OFF LIKE HE IS A BUM !!! HE DICTATED - DOMINATED AND ANNILATED MIJARES !!! ITS NOT BECAUSE MIJARES IS BAD BUT BECAUSE DARCHINYAN IS BETTER AND NOW MORE IMOPORTANTLY FOCUSED. FULL CREDIT TO BOTH FIGHTERS BUT SOMEONE HAS TO WIN AND SOMEONE HAS TO LOSE. MIJARES IS A CHAMPION BUT YOU CAN TAKE NOITHING AWAY FROM VIC HE IS A WARRIOR AND THE REAL DEAL ! RAGING BULL KO'S DONAIRE IN 7 IN RETURN MATCHUP! GO THE RAGING BULL !!! :happy
