Did mike ever fight someone who could jab or move as good as douglas?

yeah I remember that. I have not seen that fight in 25 years and I still remember Larry looking at the ref and he keeps hitting him. I remember they showed Frazier on the side looking concerned. Bad style matchup for Marvis.

That holds true for a number of his fights though, including his "defining" win over Spinks.

What fight can you, or anyone else here, guarantee he was "100%" for?

Calling Tucker a "better fighter" than Douglas is questionable - Tucker arguably had to come from behind to stop Douglas (at the very least, the fight was even), and Douglas decisively beat McCall who Tucker arguably lost to.

You could also just as well reverse this logic and say, "Douglas beat a better fighter than Tucker than Tyson, so that proves he could be better than he was against Tucker."

Either way, Tucker was not as good a boxer as Douglas - which was demonstrated in their own fight, in which Douglas outspeeded and outpunched Tucker for much of their fight, until Tucker's strength and power prevailed at the end.

He seems to say himself in the Tyson documentary that he wasn't 100% for this fight for the reason you mention.

Yeah I also him top ten. Great career and a great talent.

To be more specific regarding my overrating I think that I had him beating everyone aside from louis but now i'm not as confident he should be favoured over a prime larry or a prime lewis or a prime ali. Which until recently is exactly how I saw him.

The interesting aspect of a rematch is that both fighters declined after their fight. Douglas' weight ballooned, and while Tyson may have appeared more aggressive and "motivated" in subsequent fights, he looked even sloppier and less technically proficient.

Were he given the same leeway in judgement and benefit of the doubt that heavies from the early 20th century receive, he would stand above Greb, Langford and Robinson in Pound for Pound rankings.

Marking Tyson down for longevity seems a little harsh given that he beat ranking men 13 years apart, pretty good for a HW of his type. Is it matched by Frazier, Marciano or Dempsey?

What do you mean stand above them?

If that's how you feel then you should already stand him above them.

True, but Tyson was fighting more often, was in far better form and with a better team behind him.

I don't, was just guessing as to what luf marked him down for. Not just that, but he had a very good couple of years at the very top. That tops some so-so long reigns for me.

Oh, no, I think he got to the top again after beating bruno and seldon which is a full decade after his break out victory over berbick. All that aside he was champ for 4 years and not many can compete with that at the weight anyways.

I've only marked him down by removing my automatic assumption that he'd have defeated ali, lewis and holmes prime for prime.

I think I had him 8th but i'm reviewing my rankings lately.

It was something like louis, ali, johnson, holmes.

Can't recall the next couple off top of my head but I know that was definitely my top 4.
