Did Mike Tyson and Roy Jones ever crush someone who wasn't a can?

I mean if you look up these montage videos they look like gods but as soon as they meet any opposition it seems they aren't nearly as great as they are made out to be.

Tyson fought nothing but cans and fighters past their prime and he even got knocked out by a can in Tokyo. Granted the HW division was pretty bad during Tysons reign but Holyfield showed how overrated Tyson was (Although one could argue Tyson was already way past his prime after prison time)

RJJ also fought nothing but cans except the Hopkins fight. Now RJJ gets crushed by cans because he really had nothing but speed and athleticism to win fights

Why do people keep underrating the 80's heavyweights? It was better than todays era, an a few other eras

It wasn't better. You have to be at least 42/43 years old to make that statement and argue it. Any era where a 19/20 y/o can dominate in is weak, that's my view.

No sorry but the 80's era was just as weak as today's. I will agree it was better than a few other era's but it was still a weak one. Then again people have to understand that they all can't be as great as the 70's or the 90's which by comparison make most era's look weak.

You are right on the money. I was a young adult at this time, avidly into boxing. The HW division during the 1980s, prior to Tyson coming along, was every bit as bad as the current division - perhaps worse, because at least most of the fighters today actually get into shape!

What Tyson did, basically, was take out the garbage and make way for the much better era of the 1990s.

Seriously, guys like Tony Tubbs, Tony Tucker, Michael Dokes, Mike Weaver, James Smith, etc. etc. were MEDIOCRE. And, on top of that they didn't train and most did lots of blow. It was an awful era in the HW division, one of the worst of all time. Trust me, I lived through it.

Compared to era dominated by a guy who got ice'd by a tubby golfer in his late-30's in a mere 2 rounds

If you can watch film of guys like Terrible Tim Witherspoon, Pinklon Thomas, Tony Tucker, Michael Dokes, Tony Tubbs, Greg Page, Buster Douglas etc and not see their high level of talent & skill level, then with all due respect sir, i seriously doubt you even understand what the hell you're watching. I dont care how long you've been watching boxing

    I'd take the mid-level 80's Heavys over the mid-level 90's Heavys in a heartbeat.

The only thing better about the 90's was the elite of the elite top level guys. AND EVEN THAT'S DEBATABLE.
