Iv seen people with the opinion that Tyson was basically fully developed as a fighter on pro debut, how do you feel about this?
No one is at their peak at their pro debut. Even the best of amateurs had to adjust to the differences inherit to the pro game compared to the amateur one. Tyson was at his best from just prior to the Berbick title match up until around the Spinks fight. If you were to ask however, whether Mike Tyson was closer to his best in his pro debut in comparison to his last fight or not, then that is a definite yes.
I’m sure he made adjustments as he faced better opposition. He was a student of the game. Actually listening to him talk when he was younger was a pleasure to c a pro athlete so damn good and so immersed in the history of the sport. He had access to all the film long before YouTube and he enjoyed talking about it. So it would prob be impossible for him to be the same as day one as his first title fight.
Tyson was at his peak during the 1986/1988 period. He was still excellent in 89/91 but relied less on some skills. He had potentially all the tools in 1985 but lacked the necessary experience. I also thought he looked really good technically speaking in 99/00 with Tommy Brooks in his corner. He no longer had the same speed but used effective sidestepping and bodypunching to diversify his offense. It was a nice adjustment of style, but he bottled it by remaining inactive for most of 2001 and gaining weight.
