Did Monzon have an amateur career?

    Almost positive he had no amateur experience at all.

    im prettty sure your right i think thats why he had 3 losses and 3 draws in his first 20 fights he was still learning

    As an amateur MONZON had 87 fights, won 78, lost 8 and tied 6. He began his professional career in 1963.

    And he smoked 100 cigarettes a day at one point :shock:. Old iron lungs was something else. Apparently there must have been a few argentinan fighters who smoked. Locche was reported to chain smoke also and would take puffs on cigarettes in between rounds. Its amazing to me these guys got away with it.
