Despite being behind on the cards, Foreman was landing his share of heavy shots throughout. He hurt Moorer early in the eighth round, but wasn’t able to really capitalize on it.

According to Jim Lampley, Moorer told him he was already out on his feet from the first 1-2. Moorer also claims Foreman got lucky, but I think it actually hurts his claim of Foreman getting lucky if Moorer was already hurt before getting KO’d.

The last shot opened a gross cut inside Moorer’s mouth. You can see blood smearing on the canvas as he tried to stumble to his feet and gets counted out.

I’m glad you mentioned fist size.

In one of his ‘Old George’ HBO fights, they showed him getting gloved up. He had to get one guy on either size grabbing the ‘edges’ of the open part of the glove (the end you enter your fist) pulling and tugging with all their might to get the danged thing over his hand because it was so large.

And they pulled and pulled until they finally stretched that thing over his fist, at which point his fist had so fully filled/overfilled the glove that it looked like there was barely any padding between his fist and what it would contact.

Put my hand (or any normal person’s, even a normal heavyweight) in that same glove and it isn’t the same.

I’d liken it to George clubbing his opponents with a canned ham or a frozen turkey. His fist was a bludgeon.

    No it was no fix!
Just look at Moorer s face, his eyes, the blood coming from his mouth.

Great vision and on point time stamping. The right hand just before the KO shot was a real shaker, no doubt. Foreman could throw shots that looked lazy but still carried loads of power.

Laughable that the TOTTs for Foreman’s first career often listed his fist as 12 1/2”. That means I should have mitts that look like George’s - I wish but hell no!

He got upgraded to 13 1/2” in his second career - which sounds closer to the fact, but then he also “grew” to 6’4”. We knew George had grown “out” but growing “up” at his age was quite the feat. Lol.

Tbh, I always felt George might’ve been closer to 6’3 1/2” at very best in his first career - which he was listed as on a few occasions but it was usually the 6’3” rubber stamp they gave him - 6’3” was a popular height listing for a number of fighters in the 70s but we often saw this wasn’t the case when we saw several of the fighters in question face off in the ring.

Then we have George himself commenting on the enormous size of Liston’s fists - who possessed even bigger mitts again. Save for height, it was as if Sonny was genetically bred to create optimal physical equipment for combat.

Throughout Foreman's career, he sometimes one punch KO'd men with punches that looked like basic arm punches without much behind them. This was far from the only time he's done it.

It wasn’t as bad as Douglas—Holyfield, but he might’ve been able to beat the count if he tried (he didn’t).

i dont think anyone wants to lose the championship. i think its highly unlikely any champion would ever take a dive. Moore had a successful career up to that point, he had no need to take the loss to Foreman even for $.

If it was, Moorer’s the best actor I’ve ever seen.

When I saw the fight live back in 1994 I wondered if Moorer took a dive but looking back I doubt it.

I met Moorer a few years ago, and, he was still having to work a P.I. type job to make ends meet. Didn't sound like he was super wealthy. And, if he had beaten George, he could have been up for a mega payday with Tyson that would have made him rich. So, a fix really doesn't make sense for his legacy, or financially

Moorer got dropped like nine times in total just by Holyfield, Bert Cooper and Bigfoot Martin.

But he took a dive against Foreman? No.

George was old. George was coming off a loss. George hadn't fought in a year and a half. George worked for HBO, so they televised it and apologized for it going in because everyone assumed it would be a mismatch. George was an easy way for Moorer to make money in his first defense. Moorer and Atlas were SO cocky going in. Atlas even challenged Foreman to a fight at one of the prefight press conferences ... that's how little they thought of George.
(Teddy Atlas thought he could beat George Foreman. Talk about misguided. :hang)

But Moorer, though he'd eaten his way to heavyweight, STILL had a light heavyweight's chin and got caught by the most effective punch to land against a southpaw ... a straight right ... right in the mouth. Busted his whole mouth open. His lips immediately swelled up. Required lots of stitches.

And it was a great night.
