For someone who was trying to throw a fight, he took a huge risk throwing that right hand in round 2.
It's funny how this is also becoming a new trend after one great fighter dominates another, after a fight like that it's inevitable there will be a "did he throw the fight?" thread. No, Mosley did not throw the fight and to say he did goes against everything he's done in his career. Mayweather is just simply better at this point in their careers.
Shane was superb in that round two, fast but not just flashy-pot shot style, powerful and going downstairs to the body and upstairs again, landing clean, accurate shots. Happens that maybe Shane as well as I may have underestimated Floyd's toughness to stay right there in the punching pocket instead of moving back. Nazim said that they were prepared for the Dragon to spit fire when stepped on his tail but I guess they were not... Floyd stayed and let Shane get winded up with that pressure standing and lead shot throwing. Many have said that a fighter's age can be told in one single fight, it took that second round and maybe 15 minutes more until end of round seven, Shane was keeping up with his stance and trying to lead too but I guess that was just to avoid Floyd walking him down... His mouth was hanging open at the end and he was not trying to dictate the pace. I guess you can say that he threw the fight.
Best post you ever made. but I did hear santa is satan who else coming down your chimney with a fire roaring through it?
This is as funny as when they said Josh threw the fight with Manny. NO...Shane lost....point blank. He lost to a better fighter and desreves the credit for doing it in the fashion he did.
there are two options, first Mayweather took his lesson and fought excellent fight after 2nd round and that was the reason Mosley was looking old and helpless second Mosley just did not have any power after 2nd round which obviously resulted in Floyd getting confidence back and Mosley was looking like a servant in front of master I did not see any real changes in Floyd between the first rounds and the 10 another, he was more aggressive the whole fight, .... and more open, that why Molsey (a fresh one with full power) scored easy punches in second round. But looking at Mosley ... h e did not even try to punch Floyd later and he was puffing in the corner at the breaks, it was obvious that his conditioning was garbage that night. Floyd didn't change a thing except he become more cautious, while Mosley stopped punching at all so Floyd could score a few beautiful shots on his own not worrying about being caught again. Floyd did a perfect fight but the reason he won was poor Mosley conditioning if Mosley would have more power he would score more rounds like the 2nd, Floyd would be Kd at least once and have smaller chances to school Mosley later because he would be the tired man.
PRIME SHANE could have done what he did in round 2 for 12 rounds, that was as shell, he was gassed after 2 rounds!!!!
He wasn't "gassed". It was posted in another thread that he threw roughly the same number of punches in rounds 7-12 that he did in 1-6. They were not effective, but truth is, none of his punches were effective other than the two bombs in round 2. The reason why he looked "gassed" is because he was beaten to the punch. Mosley was setting up his right hand by jabb ing to the body in rounds 1 and 2 with some success. Mayweather started to spot patterns and movements letting him know what Mosley was doing so Mayweather was countering with the right cross before Mosley had a chance to throw his jab. If you were eating a right hand every time you wanted to throw a jab to the body, would you continue to try it? Mayweather had him and his fight plan figured out by the end of round 2 and that was the end of the fight.
Prime Shane had the same problem old Shane had, which is that he relied on fighters being at an appropriate range, and he relied on his speed to allow him to get off first. When he fought someone who could beat him to the punch or control his range he looked helpless. Just like he looked against Floyd. I'm sure he'd have won a couple more rounds earlier in his career but the end result would have been the same. Shane has always relied too much on his athleticism to win, and he was out of his depth against a guy who was a more solid boxer, and just as athletic. People ask what adjustment Floyd made that caused Shane to stop throwing the right hand after the 2nd round: He started putting his left hand up when Shane got close, to prevent that overhand right from surprising him again. Floyd was also still dangerous even when stunned. Shane had him against the ropes and was getting ready to throw down and Floyd threw a mean left hook that caused Shane to spin away and think twice. People give Shane way too much credit for being an offensive machine, neglecting to remember that he often gets trapped in a bad pattern of waiting for the right opening when he fights a guy he isn't entirely comfortable with. He only threw 496 punches against Oscar in their second fight. He threw under 400 against Mayorga. He can be put off of his gameplan by fighters who take hiim out of his comfort zone. And I think he was out of his comfort zone against Floyd from the beginning because of nerves.
