True.... it was a very serious time for political attitudes/stances to be thrown around. Ali made a very unique stance, which cost him a bloody fortune, several of his best years and an eventual battering from Frazier in the FOTC.

Perhaps Joes own intelligence has not allowed him to grow up, and forget the hypocritical words that Ali said. I only say 'hypocritical' regarding the environment in which Clay was raised, his white trainer, his white business sponsors of the beginning and the unwillingness to treat Joe as a fellow negro in the press at the time. This was Ali's stage. Simple.

Doubtlessly, Ali's genuine feelings of respect for Frazier are second to none, of all he faught. He's made praised comments of Joe for years, always offering the peace pipe....

Joe needs to get over it. He will always be remembered in Ali's shadow.

P.S ..... good to see 'Weird Al' Yankovic lifting weights....

Schmeling wasn't rascist, that's why, and nor was Louis.

Patterson was right. Taking on an Arab name because you became a Muslim overnight is ****ing stupid. His fathers name was Clay, he should have worn it with pride. If I were to call myself Ishmael Rosenbaum tomorrow because I supposedly became A Jew, people would belittle it and for good reason.

What about the countless Polish/Jews etc that made fantastic names for themselves in the fight game. Many of them changing their names also, for the sake of sounding American, therfore being accepted.

So Clay adopted a Muslim name. Stiff ****. It only changed the attitudes of the ignorant folk who questioned his ideals, not his ability. He could have called himself SNOW WHITE and kicked Pattersons arse 7 days of the week.

Mattvei Korobov simply changed it to Matt Korobov, that's not the same as changing your name from Jim Douglas to Sultan bin Ahmed. It's ****ing stupid no matter how you look at it, and a major disrespect to his parents.

You have to be ignorant to question becoming a muslim overnight and changing your name into an Arab one? Well **** me then. It's ****ing idiotic, period.

    Complete ignorance!!!

Clay was not an african name, from which he was descended. His ancestors were given the Clay name without a choice. He reclaimed his heritage.

Depends how you look at it.....
Ali treated all opponents the way he treated Frazier, its just that Joe took it to heart & therefore in Joe`s eyes it was too far.

If Cooper, Foreman or Liston had let it be known that their feelings were hurt from what Ali said... would Ali also have went to far with them ?

Depends who you listen to, Ali & fans or Frazier & fans.

    Your a moron.

You honestly think that someone using a few unkind-cruel words to unsettle an opponent in any sport requires parkinson syndrome to even itself out ?

What sorta ****in karma is that ?

No Ali made boxing what it is today, his words may have been harsh, but they were just to add to the entertainment. One of the greatest figures of the 20th century.
