Naseem Hamed dominated all of his opponents that is until he fought Barrera. It was a one sided fight and his boxing career never recovered ever since.
He dominated his opponents because they were all inferior competition, but soon as he stepped up against the elite he got exposed as a heartless front runner.
Before the nuthugger get into this thread, I would like to say yes he did. Hamed was not as good as everyone thought he was, and Barrera showed everyone that.
Well, if you start to believe your own hype, neglect training, cannot control your ego and have your own brother consistantly blow smoke up your ass because you are the greatest ever then I would say you got exposed once you met a fighter who took his job seriously and actually bothered to train. Emanuell Stewart begged him to train for the Barrera match while he was hired on as the head trainer but Hamed was too busy watching TV...........and the consequences showed up on fight night when he could not blow Barrera out and had not even a plan A- not even talking about plan B. Similar to Tyson he had early success due to diligent training and god given talent but completly derailed once tasted stardom. There is a lot of could have and would have but the fact remains, ( and I was never very fond of him) that little ****er was a real fighter with a monster punch who could also box when he wanted too. Waste of talent.
Exposed is an overused word, but in this case it's accurate. They were concealing weakness pretty much his whole career, and MAB brought them all out into the light.
:nono morales = brawler = less defense = exposed to big punches = more susceptible to KO's = Hamed KO Morales
In your dreams:nono Morales was not a brawler and his chin was made from the stones of the Great Pyramids. Morales was more skilled than his rep shows.
I agree. He believed in his own hype and neglected the basics. True champs bounce back from defeat but he just curled up and died.
Barreras chin must have been tougher than an atomic bomb than cause Naz couldnt knock him out or knock him down AND Barrera was put on his ass before that fight also.
He went life and death with an aged Kevin Kelley and got seriously hurt by Augie Sanchez. He only looked amazing against english B level fighters. Yes he had amazing power, but that's all he had, and at the top levels of the game that's really not much.
