Did Norton deserve a shot at Ali?

Yes, and probably because many people felt Norton won that second fight against Ali.

 

He definitely deserved a shot at Muhammad. He'd beaten Ali once before and gave Muhammad a great fight before just falling short in the rematch. He'd also beaten the still highly rated Jerry Quarry the year before he and Ali had their rubber.

After the second Ali fight,Muhammad still wanted to even the score with Joe Frazier,after doing so with Ken. Norton was next in line after Muhammad and Joe,so he got the shot at Foreman.

Beat Doug Jones and Henry Cooper fair and square ? but it was beyond his abilities , wasn't it ?
But yes , just like Norton and many others in history as well , Ali was an undeserving challenger who proved that it was not a totally bad idea 2 grant him d shot . I don't really think that Jones and Cooper stood a very good chance , but :
1) Maybe they did , if they had a Dundee / Panama Lewis in their corners
2) they still deserved their shot more than Ali , when and if they failed and if Ali maintained his #5 spot , he might have gotten his shot anyway

 

Ali never defeated Jones , have u ever seen the fight ?
I did , 3-4 times .
Ali didn't defeat Cooper , at least not in d first time , and he did have Panama Lewis biological and spiritual dad in his corner :deal .
Anyway , u didn't c that fight , also , u lie about Ali getting only 3 extra seconds , that what happens when 1 watches what u did . Just don't say/write that u watched this fight , or if somehow u did , maybe u tell me how 2 get it 2 shut me up ?

 

Liston was short of viable opponents though. The HW ranks were very thin. Liston had beat just about everyone already.
Cassius Clay seemed keen and confident and colourful, and was rushed in to a shot against Liston. People said Clay should wait and face more contenders, but who then would be left for Liston ?

Im not 100% on this as its been a while since i read it but wasnt Doug Jones either number 2 or 3 contender when Clay fought him? The public wouldnt stand for another Patterson match so whats unreasonable about Clay getting a shot since he beat the no2/3 contender?

This is quite what I thought , but Cooper & Jones deserved their shot first . I already posted it b4 somewhere else , and this 2 :
If the aging Liston beat them and Ali maintained his ranking in that infra weak division , then he would have gotten his chance anyway , but d public wants d superstar and is as sober , aware and sane like d sheep in
d yard of d slaughterhouse , or in other words , like d vast majority of d posters here whom r just a sample of d public which happens 2 b interested 2 a degree in boxing .
And Doug Jones was not exactly Floyd Patterson . Maybe he was a Leotis Martin , Marty Marshall or Johnny Summerlin ? is it that impossible ?
Patterson did better than Jones vs Chuvalo but Jones did better vs Ali and KOd Folley whom Patterson was protected / kept away from .
