I feel like this thread is just an excuse to ***** about the so-called "pussification" of men.

Hair has no correlation with testosterone, it is associated with DHT. Many Indian men have full beards and body hair and they typically have low testosterone when compared with other nations.

And yes, natural levels of testosterone have steadily decreased in males for a number of reasons.

Having said that most elite boxers will be supplementing with exogenous testosterone and other anabolic steroids so it's a moot point really when speaking about the evolution of boxing and competitive sport generally over the years.

He may have had more testosterone, but Jeffries would be a bum in today's HW division.

Charles Martin would KO Jeffries in one round.

Obesity is the number 1 killer of testosterone. Since men today are fat they have lower T. Period.

Also today environmental factors are destroying T levels.

Plastic, pollution, chemicals in the food, etc. Look it up. Modern men do have significantly lower T. That's not just some assertion. Studies have proven it. Like that's actually how it is.

Maybe modern men do have lower testosterone than men in Jeffries' time, but modern men live MUCH longer than men in Jeffries' time. The average life expectancy of men in Jeffries' time was 40. I'd rather live longer than have more testosterone.

Probably not as high as you would think. He loved alcohol which is another destroyer of Testesterone, especially beer. And wasn't exactly cut either. There is a relationship between abdominal fat and low T.

You have headed off on a bit of a tangent there. But I agree with you and it isn't just the reason boxing has fallen off in America. The same applies in some other 'too comfortable to have to resort to boxing' countries.

That's it! If people were starving they'd be forced to hit each other for food :deal: I think we are onto something here :D

Sorry, I was being half serious and half troll. But it's a fact that desperate conditions breed hard people.

People were a lot poorer in Dempsey and Louis' time.
