And did so because he did a hard pivot (which his corner alluded to in mid round interview earlier), used the left to obscure Ortiz’s vision (which everyone knows the punch you don’t see coming does the most damage) and, in that round, has closed the difference and stayed in the pocket so he was in perfect range for a short, deadly sniper shot to end it.

But, nah, he has no skill.

    SMFH.

Ortiz lined up his chin for Wilder. To get hit on the side is much worse for punch resistance than straight on the chin.

If every fighter who is active now keeps fighting eventually someone is going to get them. Some will get got before 40, or even 30 wins

No, you're overthinking it and reading too much into what happened as though it were some calculated strategic triumph. No. I promise you, that much forethought didn't go through Wilder's mind. He is an instinct fighter, not a thoughtful one. He followed his instincts, waiting for a spot, and when he saw one, he pulled trigger. Boom. End of story.

Also lol @ describing the basic function of a 1-2 (yes, the jab obscures the opponent's vision to make a path for the cross to land unseen) like it was some new thing, reinventing the wheel.

Hard pivot created the angle and turned Ortiz to set it up.

That’s skill. His own corner told us the stratagem during the in-fight interview. He also closed the distance that round and started fighting in the pocket.

If you think all that goes into it is “throw the 1-2” you need to study the game more.

LOLWUT? He saw the punch and still was totally hurt and lost. If he hadnt seen the punch, he would have lost consciousness and they had to call ambalamps.

4 fighters that we know of died this year, yet idiotic armchairs are still looking for reasons to question fighters heart and integrity.

    You can’t fix stupid.

He almost made the count. I actually disagree with the stoppage (11 secs down?) as Ortiz could well have recovered on his stool. We saw Wilder effed on his stool last time and get an extra 15 secs from a nysac quack.
