Did pac carry Oscar a bit during the 8th round?

I ran to my uncles house since he had the fight on his DVR. I saw the fight twice and yes it did look like it. I am glad he won.

 

I mentioned during the fight, that Pac seems to be carrying him.

Yes, I think he did. Similar to Calzaghe-Jones in the last few rounds where Joe just didn't want to end the fight.

After the destruction in the 7th round, Manny very likely knew it was all over and that he probably could end things whenever he wanted to.

That and he might have been a bit tired himself. It's not a computer game where you can go hell for leather from start to finish. Pacquiao has dispatched numerous top fighters in ruthless fashion so I wouldn't doubt his intention there.

No, I think he was aware he was kicking his ass but also conscious of the fact that he should avoid getting hit by the bigger man.

 

Wrong, on both counts.

Joe let off the gas in the final 3 or so rounds of the fight. He could have forced a stoppage at any time had he wanted to, but he didn't want to embarrass Roy any more than he already had. Remember, Roy was his co-promoter and someone Joe admires greatly. That's why Joe clowned more and punched less as the fight was winding down. He wanted to give the crowd something to see but didn't want to keep hammering Roy with shots when it was clear Roy was hanging on and hoping to finish the fight with a streaming cut and nothing to offer in return punches.

The fights were very similar, Pac/ODLH and Calz/RJJ. Both saw the total humiliation of a one-time great in the sport whom many predicted (Tim Smith, Wallace Matthews and Dan Rafael, among other writers and many fighters, picked Jones to beat Calzaghe) would win the fight. Joe won 11-1, Pac won 8-0 (or 7-1 for one judge) and via TKO.

The biggest differences between the two fights were that Jones wasn't favored as was ODLH and Calzaghe wasn't moving up two divisions. Neither ODLH nor Jones was what they once were leading up to these bouts, but few expected their complete domination at the hands of their foes.
