Just watching the fight, this is by far the best body punching I've ever seen from Pacquiao. Some of those right hooks were brutal and he positioned himself brilliantly, which is a new skill for him. I know Clottey was perfect for body punches, so is it just down to him leaving his body open or is this another new skill for Pacquiao?

We've seen his jab improve, his left hook, his right hook, his uppercuts and now possibly body punching improve in recent fights. I've never seen any fighter improve like him, ever. Joe Frazier under Futch improved greatly, but not as much as Pacquiao under Roach.

I think this could be a big plus against Mayweather, especially the straight punches to the body. The straight one-two should hit Mayweather quite a lot when he is up on the ropes. Since seeing the Clottey fight, I have more faith in a Pacquiao win solely because of his body punching.

It was either the body or the gloves.

The biggest improvement he made was in his generalship. Pacquiao/Roach interpretted Clottey's gamplan, read the arc of the fight as it would happen with the status quo and significantly reduced output. It became a much more economic display. He tried to apply his own counter-pressure often whilst ceeding the front-foot. His most mature display.

Yea he showed the ability to get punched in the face by a slow non mobile target at will. He got that new dance called the Neck Snap down to a science now cause Clottey was snapping that neck back at will with straight right hands and uppercuts.

I have to be honest, I am a huge fan of Pacquiao but I was not too impressed with his performance.

He did release some of the recent doubts that I was having about his stamina. It's still very good.

It's hard to look too impressive in a one sided fight where the other guy doesn't even TRY to win. Pacquiao did exactly what he needed to do, and the blame is all on Clottey, I just don't see how anyone can really learn much about Pac from this fight.

How can you not be impressed by his totally crucifying one of the biggest welters in the division who fought life and death with Cotto? I just don't understand that. He's prove dhimself 3 levels above one of the best in the division. It was absolutley awesome.

    Clottey isn't slow.

I think Pacquiao neglected his defence willingly. It wasn't great that he got hit so often but he didn't seem to even bother with defence. The three uppercuts in a row show this clearly. I think he wanted Clottey to open up more than he was doing so he could land his own counters, which he actually did successfully, but it caused Clottey to close down more.

I wouldn't be too worried. He's shown good defence in the past, he was just in a fight where he could afford to neglect it.

That's exactly what i was seeing! LOL as "fast" as he is SLOW ass Clottey was landing solid punches whenever he did throw and did you see Manny's face after like 3 punches??? Can you imagine what he would have looked like if Joshua actually fought?...

Pacquiao's defense is lacking. Especially for a so-called P4P #1 fighter. Did Clottey even miss with any of those uppercuts?

the result was amazing but there are certain sutbleties from the fight that were not too good.

    1. Pacquiao was tiny. Even when Pacquiao was blocking punches, Clottey was often able to force his shots through Pacquiao's guard and snap his head back, even though he wasn't always putting his weight behind them.

    2. Pacquiao's eyes were swollen despite not taking many punches. He took less than 10 punches per round, probably close to half of them were jabs, yet his eyes were still swollen. Against Marquez, MAB, and Morales he took way more punches than that and the swelling was comparable or even less. I think his face is showing signs that its starting to feel the wear and tear of Pacquiao's 60 or so fight. And the fact that he's had so many wars and started his training camp so soon after the Cotto fight is imo not a good thing.

    3. He was always circling to the right but I thought that he should have given Clottey some different looks, namely using roundhouse lefts to the head and liver. Also, he was having alot of success with the right hook to the ear, landing it cleany without getting hit in return, but imo under-utilized that punch.

like I said it was a great result but after watching the fight I thought he could do even better. Wasn't his best performance even though he did better than I expected.
