I think Parker really bought into the idea that Joshua would gas in the last 5 rounds but it turned out he finished the stronger. No more stamina jibes now, Joshua has killed that particular criticism.
Yeah referee ruined this fight ending by a knockout for either one of them. The breaking suited Joshua but there were also breaks that suited Parker, ref ruined the contest
I found myself asking the same thing in the late rounds when I expected Parker to realise he was losing on points and therefore just go forward and throw everything.
I thought Parker did well. He fought in spurts, winded, and kept the bodybuilder from going all out. He won a few rounds, just needed to press the action a little more. That was probably his best fight to date.
Parker ran because he was scared, and AJ didn't force the pace or throw anything because he was scared.
He did well until the last few rounds. It was an even fight or Parker was ahead until he gave away the last couple rounds. It really didn't matter anyway though the judges was gonna screw him.
He fought to win on points but then he switched to survival mode when he realized he had no answer to the problems AJ's size and reach were causing him. AJ's size and reach was the difference between them but the difference wasn't really that great.
They both lost the fight! However, you have to blame the idiot referee on a lot of it, when they would start mixing it up, the referee would jump in and stop them from fighting! A horrible referee! The judges should be ashamed also, those scores were terrible! That fight could have been called a draw because neither did any real fighting, no significant punches landed by either. There were a lot of even rounds, I have no real problem with Joshua squeaking out a decision, but it was a very close razor thin fight! Those judges had an agenda! It was no shutout for sure and Joshua did not deserve to win that many rounds, no way. All they did was pose a lot, jab, land nothing, Parker did land a few good punches, Joshua landed a few, but that was it. Boring as hell! I was very disappointed! Although both are much better than Wilder, I think Povetkin would knock them both out, including Wilder!
They can be one in the same. He was well on his way to an easy victory until he gassed. That happened because it took everything to be as successful as he was in the first six rounds at both evading and keeping Joshua from doing anything and at sticking his jab out consistently and with success (those compubox jab numbers are bad). Out-throw + out-land + dictate action = winning a round... Parker did a lot of that. Pretty negative of you to say he "fought to survive." More like he "fought a smart fight" and it was never going to matter because the judges' scorecards were already filled in.
Based on the response to the poll I would say the question is legitimate. When Parker chose to employ that particular strategy he was as good as doomed. Someone with his dimensions and ability could have been effective moving forward and initiating powerful exchanges if he would of been willing to take chances. A flicking jab while moving was his safest bet.
Joshua was winning comfortably so didn't need to take extra risks, it was up to Parker to change things and take risks to go for the win but instead he seemed content to lose a wide decision which was disappointing.
If he was trying to survive he'd have utilized his naturally stronger lower body and stayed in AJs chest instead of at the end of AJs power
