Sure he was not a concussive puncher or even a break-you-down and then stop you late puncher. But watching his fights recently, I think he did have subtle 'keep you honest power'. Chavez must have been tasting something in that fight when hit flush and then not pursuing Whitaker. I think he hit Tito to the body and definitely hurt him. Thoughts?
Yeah he did he actually scored alot of knockdowns in his career it's just often he didn't really press for the stoppage. But Whitaker did show againat Hurtado when he really wanted to press for a KO he could hit with considerable power that KO was scary.
Any guy that spends years of his life practicing punching other people can crack pretty good when he decides to. Whitaker could be a very sharp hitter when he chose to be.
I don’t think he had very much power to underrate . He could sometimes score knockouts or knockdowns if the exact timing and circumstances were in his favor but overall he wasn’t a big hitter
Speed , unpredictability, and accuracy of a punch can be just as damaging as pure power of a punch. Whitaker had the 1st three attributes in spades. But the last he was average. Whitaker hit harder than Howard Davis Jr, but not by much.
